Description
In the manga and anime series Blood Lad, Blood D. Bloods, more commonly known as Braz D. Blood, is the eldest brother of the powerful Blood family. He is a noble, pure-blood vampire who resides in the Blood estate within the Demon World Acropolis, the upper echelon of demon society. As the firstborn, Braz holds significant authority and is a central figure in the political and personal conflicts that drive the story.
Braz D. Blood is a highly intelligent and calculating individual, known for his manipulative and deceptive nature. He is a strategist who carefully orchestrates events from the shadows to achieve his long-term goals. His outward demeanor is often charismatic and sharp-tongued, and he displays a tendency to tease his younger siblings, Staz and Liz. Despite his cold and scheming exterior, his personality is complex. His actions, while often cruel, are occasionally hinted to be motivated by a twisted sense of care for his family, particularly his younger brother, Staz.
Braz's primary motivation is deeply rooted in revenge. He seeks to overthrow the powerful King Wolf, who murdered his father, the former king of the Acropolis. This desire to restore the Blood family's honor and power is the driving force behind most of his schemes. He is willing to go to great lengths, including conducting experiments and forming reluctant alliances, to see his plans come to fruition.
In the story, Braz serves as one of the primary antagonists, especially in the early narrative. While Staz is focused on reviving the human girl Fuyumi Yanagi, Braz operates on a much larger scale, manipulating events and characters from his seat of power. He is directly responsible for sealing his brother Staz's immense powers at a young age by placing a bullet in his heart, an act he claims was to protect Staz from his own uncontrollable strength but which Staz interpreted as an assassination attempt. This act is the source of the deep estrangement and resentment between the two brothers.
Key relationships define Braz's role. His relationship with his brother Staz C. Blood is the most significant. It is a bond of mutual distrust and hidden care, where Braz often uses harsh and seemingly cruel methods to test or protect his younger sibling. In contrast, his sister Liz T. Blood craves his attention, feeling neglected as he focuses most of his interest on Staz. Braz did, however, grant Liz her powerful privilege magic, showing he does invest in her capabilities. He is also the one who sent the character Akim to Dr. Franken's lab for experimentation, a decision that later backfires when Akim captures him, forcing Braz into a coerced servitude while secretly plotting his betrayal.
Throughout the series, Braz shows little development in terms of changing his core personality, remaining a schemer to the end. However, his history is slowly revealed, providing context for his actions and showing that his manipulations often have a logical, if ruthless, purpose. He is not a purely evil villain but a pragmatic leader burdened by the legacy of his murdered father and the responsibility for his powerful siblings.
As a pure-blood vampire, Braz possesses a variety of notable abilities. His signature power is Blood Stalker, which allows him to manipulate his own blood into various shapes and control it from any distance. He can also fly, though this depletes his magical energy. His most formidable skills include mind manipulation, which allows him to control the thoughts and actions of others, and a technique called Body Pierce, which inflicts excruciating pain on a demon by piercing their body. Like his siblings, he can manifest his magic into a physical form, which appears as five sharp, blue swords connected by a crescent moon. He also uses equipment like a crystal ball for surveillance and a revolver loaded with special bullets, such as those that can seal a target's powers.
