Description
Hematite Ramsbeckite is a supporting character in the anime Cluster Edge. He is a 23-year-old man with a gentle and initially timid disposition, who serves as a teacher at the prestigious Cluster Academy. Standing at 182 cm tall with a birthday of June 26, he has black hair and is associated with the巨蟹座 zodiac sign and B blood type. His past is deeply intertwined with the academy, as he was once a student there alongside his close friend, Chalcedony Renierie, often referred to as Karus. Hematite now works as an instructor, a position that constantly reminds him of his own choices and regrets, particularly his lingering sorrow over not having joined Karus when he left the academy years ago.

At the beginning of the story, Hematite presents a cautious and self-deprecating personality, often claiming he cannot fly, a metaphor for his perceived inability to take bold action or defy the powerful forces surrounding the school. He tends to prioritize avoidance and safety, preferring to navigate conflicts by stepping aside rather than confronting them directly. This behavior stems from his internal struggles and a history of letting pivotal moments pass him by, a fact for which he harbors significant regret. However, beneath this meek exterior lies a fundamentally kind and supportive individual who genuinely cares for his students and colleagues.

As the narrative progresses and the academy faces severe threats, including a violent military crackdown, Hematite undergoes a notable transformation. The escalating crises, particularly the suffering of the students and the revelation of dark secrets, compel him to abandon his passive stance. He finds the courage to overcome his fears and self-doubt, evolving from a hesitant observer into a proactive and brave supporter of the younger generation. He becomes a pillar of strength for the students, especially for Agate Fluorite and Beryl Jasper, offering them encouragement and protection when the institution is under siege. His role shifts from a man haunted by past inaction to one who actively shapes the future by defending his charges.

A crucial aspect of Hematite's character is his connection to the central conflict regarding artificial soldiers. His family is deeply embedded in the military-industrial complex; his father built the family fortune by manufacturing artificial soldiers and later ran a weapons development company that secretly supported the creation of a new, highly classified type of artificial human. Because of this family background, Hematite is aware of the hidden truth surrounding the birth and nature of the protagonist, Agate Fluorite. This knowledge places him in a unique and conflicted position, bridging the worlds of the academy, the military, and the controversial history of artificial life. His abilities are not combat-oriented but lie in his acquired information, his evolution into a moral anchor for the students, and his gradual development of inner strength to stand against powerful adversaries in defense of what is right.
