Description
Dogen is the main antagonist of the anime Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash!. He is a tall man with a sculpted, muscular build. In the anime specifically, he has black hair, lacks facial hair, and typically dresses in a traditional suit and tie, which distinguishes his appearance from his blond, bearded counterpart seen in the video games.

Dogen is characterized by an insatiable greed and a conniving, persistent nature. His primary motivation is the acquisition of power, and he is willing to sacrifice anyone to achieve his goals. He prefers quick and easy routes to strength, such as using forbidden techniques or consuming a yoma to enhance his own power, rather than earning it through proper shinobi training. He is shown to be very manipulative and is dedicated entirely to his objectives, with other characters noting that his determination could have been used for good had it been directed toward less selfish aims.

In the story, Dogen operates as a major investor and benefactor of Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy. This financial support is merely a front for his true intentions. He seeks to resurrect Orochi, an ancient and powerful yoma sealed beneath the school, and he requires female shinobi to serve as sacrifices for the ritual. He is responsible for issuing the mission that leads to the theft of the Super-Secret Ninja Art Scroll, setting the events of the series in motion. He also uses his mastery of manipulation to control others, such as when he influences Hibari into stealing the scroll.

Dogen possesses notable abilities as a shinobi, primarily centered on manipulation and control. He is proficient in the Ninja Art of puppetry, which allows him to take command of virtually any person. He even uses this technique on himself to unlock his inner potential. He also demonstrates mastery over hypnosis, a skill he uses to control others. Despite these powerful techniques, his impatience and desire for effortless power mean his fundamental skills as a shinobi are not as refined as those of more disciplined warriors. When faced in direct combat by a skilled opponent, his attacks appear powerful but ultimately wild and clumsy.

Key relationships in the anime revolve around his antagonistic role toward the main characters. He is the primary enemy of Homura and her team, the Crimson Squad, who ultimately work to stop his plan. He also has a connection to the character Rin, as the anime establishes that it was Dogen who saved her from death. His ultimate goal is the resurrection of the yoma Orochi. He is eventually confronted and cut down by Homura after she learns the full extent of his plot to use shinobi as sacrifices. His persistent drive to control yoma and gain power remains his defining trait throughout his role as the central villain.
