Description
Nessa is a central character in the anime Fractale, introduced as a doppel—a digital avatar made entirely of Fractale data. She first emerges from a brooch left behind by a girl named Phryne, which Clain later discovers. Nessa is unique among doppels because she possesses a physical, tangible form that can be touched, but only by people she chooses. Her appearance is that of a young girl around ten years old, with medium-length red hair and green eyes, often seen wearing a kimono-like outfit. She is cheerful, energetic, and curious, frequently smiling and dragging Clain into explorations and adventures, sometimes leading to trouble. Despite her playful demeanor, Nessa holds many secrets about her true nature and her connection to Phryne. Her existence is composed of data that is crucial to the Fractale system, and she is essentially a copy of Phryne’s younger self. As the story progresses, Nessa develops a strong emotional attachment to Clain, becoming jealous of his interactions with others. Her motivations are initially tied to helping Clain search for Phryne, but she also seeks to understand her own identity and purpose within the fractured world. Nessa’s role in the narrative is that of a guide and companion, helping Clain uncover the hidden truths behind the Fractale system and the rebellion against it. Her key relationships are with Clain, whom she comes to care for deeply, and with Phryne, whose memories and data she carries. Nessa’s unique abilities set her apart from ordinary avatars: she can affect electronics and inanimate objects at will, and her tangible form allows her to interact with the physical world in ways other doppels cannot. Her development throughout the series involves growing from a mysterious, carefree avatar into a more emotionally complex character who grapples with feelings of attachment, jealousy, and a desire for a genuine connection.
