Description
Luciano is a waiter at the Casetta dell'Orso restaurant in Rome, an establishment known for its all-male staff of mature gentlemen. He has grey hair and green eyes, and is an older man who has worked there for some time. He is a widower who still deeply mourns his late wife, a loss that keeps him from pursuing new romantic relationships. Despite this grief, he is kind-hearted, gentle, and wise, often acting as a calm mentor to the younger staff and to the protagonist Nicoletta. His motivations center on his love for his late wife and his devotion to his grandson, for whom the entire restaurant staff organizes a special birthday celebration. In the story, Luciano serves as a supporting character who provides emotional depth and contrast. He is a close friend and confidant to Claudio Paradiso, the head waiter, and he offers direct advice about moving on from a past marriage when he tells Claudio it is time to remove his wedding ring. Luciano’s own development involves confronting his lingering attachment to his deceased wife, a journey that parallels and highlights Claudio’s similar struggle. He rejects the advances of a woman because he cannot forget his wife, and his consistent, quiet loyalty defines his role within the restaurant’s warm community.
