Mitsutaka Tachikawa is a Japanese voice actor and actor born on November 15, 1949, in Tokyo, Japan. He is known for a career that spans both on-screen performances in film and television as well as voice work for anime and dubbing. Tachikawa’s career began in theater; he was a member of the theatrical company Gekidan Kumo and later became a founding member of the acting troupe En in 1975, where he remained active until the spring of 2019. Throughout his career, he has performed in a wide range of stage productions, including musicals and translated foreign plays, and has appeared in numerous Japanese television dramas and films.

As a voice actor, Tachikawa has contributed to anime series, video games, and the dubbing of foreign films and television series into Japanese. In anime, he is recognized for his role as Lucciano in the 2009 series Ristorante Paradiso. This series, an adaptation of Natsume Ono’s manga, is set in Rome and follows the story of a young woman who comes to work at a restaurant staffed entirely by charming older gentlemen wearing glasses; Tachikawa’s character, Lucciano, is one of the waiters. Another notable anime credit includes a voice role in the long-running and highly popular series Gintama. His other voice work in animation includes a role in the science fiction series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Beyond anime, Tachikawa has a substantial career in the dubbing industry, providing the Japanese voice for many overseas actors and characters. He is known as the regular Japanese dubbing voice for American actor J.K. Simmons, providing his voice for roles including J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man film series, specifically in the animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, as well as for Simmons’ roles in films like Red One and The Union. He has also dubbed for actor Christopher Walken. His extensive dubbing work includes providing Japanese voices for characters in numerous international films and television series such as Harry Potter, The Life of Pi, The Post, A Star is Born, Justice League, and the television series Disclaimer and Constellation.
