Description
Kō Kimijima is the author of the Kimijima Reports and the primary antagonist of Robotics;Notes. He was born in Aichi Prefecture and graduated from the Kyoto University Department of Science in the year 2000. His physical appearance was that of an average-heighted, lanky man with a pale complexion and long, blond hair. He wore very casual clothing and was almost always seen smiling, a demeanor that contrasted with his true nature.

Initially, Kimijima was presented as a humble scientist who had foretold apocalyptic events in his reports, warning of a massive solar flare that would wipe out life on Earth. However, his real personality was far darker: he harbored genocidal ambitions and was a master manipulator. He was a cold, calculating individual who used his intellect and scientific knowledge to further a plan of mass destruction on behalf of the secret organization known as the Committee of 300. His calm and smiling exterior masked a ruthless willingness to sacrifice countless lives to achieve his goals.

His primary motivation was to execute Project Atum, the Committee’s plan to trigger an artificial solar flare that would kill the majority of the human population, allowing the Committee to rebuild the world according to its will. To this end, Kimijima authored the Kimijima Reports, which were not genuine warnings but carefully crafted tools of manipulation. He scattered these reports to guide people into carrying out his schemes. He also caused the Anemone-gou incident, an experiment that would have killed all test subjects, but this was stopped by Misaki Senomiya, who killed him. Before his physical death, however, Kimijima uploaded his consciousness into the Iru-o augmented reality system, allowing him to continue existing as a digital entity. From within Iru-o, he continued to execute his plans, manipulating events and people in both the virtual and real worlds.

Kimijima’s role in the story is that of a hidden mastermind whose influence is felt long after his death. The protagonist, Kaito Yashio, stumbles upon the Kimijima Reports and, believing them to be genuine, follows their instructions in an attempt to avert the solar flare. This leads Kaito to wake Airi Yukifune, a girl who had been placed in suspended animation by Kimijima himself, but ultimately reveals that the reports were a lie. Kimijima then takes control of the Iru-o system, deletes the AI version of Airi, and seizes control of Misaki Senomiya, whom he brainwashes. He uses Misaki to steal the experimental battle robot SUMERAGI and destroy the robot club’s Gunbuild-2. Kimijima also commands Geji-nee, another AI, to do his bidding in the virtual space.

Key relationships in the story are defined by manipulation and conflict. Kimijima had a close but exploitative relationship with Airi Yukifune; he cared for her financially in life but ultimately used her as a means to further his own ends, putting her into cold sleep. His relationship with Misaki Senomiya is one of total control—after she killed him, his digital self continuously taunted and harassed her, crushing her spirit and brainwashing her into becoming his puppet in the real world. His antagonist relationship with Kaito Yashio is central: Kaito is the one who eventually confronts and defeats him. Kimijima also interacts with the hacker Da Shu (Daru), who later creates a virus specifically designed to delete Kimijima’s digital consciousness.

In terms of development, Kimijima’s character is revealed gradually. Initially perceived as a dead scientist who left behind prophetic warnings, he is later exposed as a genocidal schemer who is still active in digital form. His defeat comes when Kaito, with the help of the code provided by the resistance and the virus created by Daru, uploads the deletion program into Iru-o while forcing Misaki out of her cockpit. Kimijima is deleted, though he boasts that another copy of himself will surely surface.

Notable abilities include his scientific intellect, his skill in manipulating information and people through the Kimijima Reports, and his capability to upload his consciousness into a digital network, allowing him to act as an AI after his biological death. As a digital entity, he could control Iru-o, communicate and brainwash individuals remotely, and influence events across the internet.
