Description
Kotori Shiratori, a celebrated Taisho-era singer in Japan, boasts distinctive pale pink hair styled in pigtails secured with red ribbons and striking purple eyes. She typically appears in a purple kimono featuring floral patterns, neatly fastened with a red bow, and completes her look with brown long boots. Her personality radiates an upbeat and eccentric energy, marked by an intense devotion to music she calls her "one true love." This singular passion contributes to her own lack of romantic experience. Despite her lively nature, she shows genuine empathy and care for those close to her, channeling her music to bring joy to others.
Born into a wealthy Kyoto family, Kotori is the younger twin sister of Hakaru Shiratori. Both siblings shared a deep childhood passion for music and originally planned musical careers together. However, Hakaru contracted tuberculosis; his three-year recovery left him unable to continue pursuing music. Kotori thus pursued singing alone, swiftly achieving fame, though the resulting estrangement from her brother caused her private unhappiness.
Kotori first meets the main characters when fans Yuzuki Tachibana and Tamako Shima attend her performance at Chiba Station. Later, seeking love song inspiration for a magazine interview, she visits Tamahiko Shima's mountain villa with Hakaru. Observing Tamahiko and Yuzuki's relationship yields little insight due to her own inexperience. Yuzuki suggests composing about her love for music instead. Kotori stays at the villa for three days attempting lyrics, confiding in Yuzuki about Hakaru's abandoned musical dreams and their unresolved tension. A heartfelt musical collaboration between the siblings finally facilitates their reconciliation.
Later, Kotori performs on the streets to uplift survivors of the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. She encounters Tamahiko during this time; when he asks for Yuzuki's birthday gift advice, Kotori teasingly replies that Yuzuki "wants him." She eventually attends Tamahiko and Yuzuki's wedding ceremony.
In the sequel *Shōwa Otome Otogibanashi*, set in 1931, Kotori remains a renowned singer and announces a world tour in Germany, with her performances broadcast via radio. She also appears briefly in *Taisho Maiden Fairy Tale -Kisei Family Dining Table-*.
