Description
Ithnan is a significant antagonist in the narrative, primarily known as a member of the mysterious and malevolent organization known as Al-Thamen. His origins, however, trace back to a previous world called Alma Torran, where he lived a very different life. In that era, Ithnan was a loyal companion and supporter of the prince Solomon, fighting alongside him in a resistance movement to overthrow the corrupt Orthodox government. During this time, he was a wielder of one of the 72 Divine Staves, powerful magical tools. He was personally close to both Solomon and another key ally, Uraltugo (often called Ugo). Despite his loyalty, Ithnan would later be described as someone who betrayed Solomon, even while still deeply respecting him.
In terms of personality, Ithnan is consistently portrayed as a serious and calm individual. He has a tendency to be direct, getting straight to the point without unnecessary flourish. Even when surrounded by enemies or in dangerous situations, he often displays a faint smile, which speaks to a degree of confidence and arrogance in his own power. However, his personality was not always as it appears. In his youth in Alma Torran, he was more susceptible to being flustered, especially by a close companion named Setta, whom he considered a brother. Ithnan was also somewhat self-conscious about his shorter stature, wishing to grow taller than Ugo. The defining shift in his personality occurred after the death of Setta. He could not accept that Setta's death was a matter of fate or destiny. This rejection of a predetermined world order is what ultimately led him to turn against Solomon and join Al-Thamen, believing that people should live by their own will.
Ithnan's primary motivation is directly tied to this rejection of fate. As a member of Al-Thamen, his goal is to fight against the destiny that Solomon imposed upon the world after defeating the god Il Ilah. He seeks to spread chaos and darkness, as the organization believes this is necessary to free the world from the shackles of destiny. He works to achieve this by manipulating Black Rukh, the corrupted form of spiritual energy, and by creating chaos in various kingdoms. For example, he provided magical weapons to Cassim's rebel group, the Fog Troupe, to instigate turmoil in the Balbadd kingdom.
Ithnan's role in the story is that of a manipulator and a direct threat to the protagonists. He is responsible for some of the most pivotal curses in the series. He is the one who infects both Sinbad and Alibaba with a curse that begins to convert their White Rukh into Black Rukh, aiming to turn them into "Black Kings" for Al-Thamen. During the events in Sindria, he attacks Sinbad and Alibaba, splattering them with the blood of his clones to initiate the curse. He later confronts Sinbad directly, boasting that the curse has turned Sinbad into a doll he can manipulate at will. In the Zagan dungeon arc, his influence continues to plague Alibaba, with a part of Ithnan's soul even entering him in an attempt to corrupt him completely.
Several key relationships define Ithnan's character. His relationship with Solomon is foundational, moving from deep loyalty and love to a bitter betrayal born of philosophical disagreement. His bond with Setta was the most important of his early life; his death was the catalyst for his fall. He also had a soft spot for Dunya Musta'sim, another member of Al-Thamen. In the present timeline, he is a direct enemy of Sinbad, who ultimately destroys him (in the form of a matryoshka-like doll) after a fierce battle using the Extreme Magic technique Foraz Zora.
His development is a tragic arc from a devoted soldier for a just cause to a bitter agent of chaos. The pivotal event is the death of Setta, which shattered his faith in a world governed by fate. He could not reconcile the idea that his brother's proud, willful death was simply a predetermined event, leading him to dedicate his existence to destroying that very principle, even if it meant betraying his beloved king.
In terms of abilities, Ithnan is a highly skilled and versatile magician. He is a master of manipulating Black Rukh and specializes in a form of cursed magic that attaches itself to a victim's blood vessels, forcibly converting their inner Rukh from white to black. If the victim resists, the opposing Rukh energies can destroy each other, causing the body to rot. He was also instrumental in the development of the Dark Metal Vessels and the techniques used to create Dark Djinns, working alongside Matal Mogamett. Ithnan wields a wand shaped like a scythe, which he can also ride to fly. His magical repertoire includes various elemental spells, such as lightning magic (which he used to empower his allies) and fire magic, as well as defensive techniques like the Borg barrier. His magical prowess, combined with his cunning and centuries of experience, makes him one of the more dangerous operatives of Al-Thamen.
