Description
Hakaze Kusaribe is the nineteen-year-old leader of the Kusaribe clan, a secretive group of mages, and is known as the strongest sorceress in the clan's history. She carries the title of the Magician of Genesis, tasked with protecting the Tree of Genesis, the source of her clan's magical power. In terms of appearance, she has long peach-colored hair and red eyes.
Hakaze possesses a strong-willed, determined, and pragmatic personality. She is known to be frank and blunt with her words, taking clear pride in her formidable abilities. Despite an air of arrogance that comes from her status and power, she is not needlessly cruel or selfish. She is reliable and does not break promises. A significant and softer side of her character emerges as the story progresses, revealing an innocent and almost naive disposition when it comes to matters of love, which she experiences for the first time.
Her primary motivation is to stop the revival of the Tree of Exodus, an apocalyptic event that would bring disaster to the world. This goal is deeply personal, as she was betrayed and marooned on a deserted island by a fellow clan member, Samon Kusaribe. Isolated on the island and unable to use magic due to the lack of civilization, she uses a magical communicator to send out a plea for help. She forms a contract with Mahiro Fuwa, agreeing to use her magic to help him find the killer of his sister, Aika, in exchange for his assistance in stopping Samon and securing her freedom.
Hakaze’s role in the story is that of a powerful ally and a key strategist. Initially communicating through a wooden doll, she guides the two protagonists, Mahiro and Yoshino Takigawa, providing them with magical support and directing their actions against her former clan. She is the central figure around which the magical conflict revolves, as her imprisonment and subsequent liberation drive a significant portion of the plot.
Her key relationships are central to her development. Her partnership with Mahiro Fuwa is pragmatic and conditional. While she considers him a trusted ally and friend, he is initially motivated purely by revenge, and a tension exists where he would turn against her if she were linked to his sister's death. Her relationship with Yoshino Takigawa is the most transformative. She initially admires his intellect and calm rationality. Over time, she develops deep romantic feelings for him, becoming so consumed by her love that she admits she would be willing to commit terrible acts, such as harming Aika, just to remain in Yoshino's memory. Her affection for Yoshino eventually surpasses her loyalty to the Tree of Genesis, leading her to abandon it. She is also closely connected to Junichirou Hoshimura, a childhood friend she trusts implicitly, and Samon Kusaribe, the rival who betrayed her but continues to address her with respect as "Princess."
Hakaze undergoes significant development. She begins as a confident and somewhat prideful princess who believes in the absolute providence of the Tree of Genesis. Her betrayal and isolation humbled her, but her core determination remained. Her most profound change occurs as she falls in love with Yoshino, forcing her to confront selfish and jealous impulses she had never experienced. By the end of the story, following the destruction of both magical trees, she loses all her magical power and becomes an ordinary girl. She leaves her clan behind to pursue a normal life and a romantic relationship with Yoshino.
Her notable abilities are derived from the Tree of Genesis. As the Magician of Genesis, her magic requires an offering of items from human civilization, with more advanced technology granting greater power. Her primary magical skills include the generation of powerful force fields that can be used for both defense and offense, high-speed movement and flight, and healing magic capable of regenerating her own wounds or healing others. Her connection to the Tree of Genesis also grants her a form of supernatural luck, ensuring that a path to victory always exists for her.
