Description
Duuz Delax Rex is a prominent character from the anime Angel Links, serving as the Platoon Commander aboard the titular vessel, the Angel Links. He belongs to a race known as Dragonites in this series, a proud and powerful species of reptilian humanoids. While a version of this character appeared in the related anime Outlaw Star, his portrayal in Angel Links is notably different. In this series, he is presented as a calm, relaxed, and contemplative individual, a contrast to the more stubborn and hotheaded officer seen previously.
Duuz is a being of immense physical prowess and wisdom. He is regarded as the most powerful of his people, possessing unmatched skill in swordsmanship and barehanded combat. His abilities are so extraordinary that he can deflect bullets with his sword and engages in battle almost exclusively alone, seemingly never suffering any harm. Despite his fearsome capabilities in a fight, his temperament is the opposite of aggressive. He is consistently one of the calmest and most silent members of the crew, often spending his leisure time methodically polishing his cherished sword, which is as large as a small building. He also demonstrates a wise and analytical mind, able to read an enemy’s movements with ease and offer thoughtful advice, leading others to see him as a wise elder figure.
His personality is defined by a quiet but firm sense of superiority over humans, whom he tends to view as inherently weaker and inferior to his own kind. This perspective does not make him cruel or arrogant, but rather contributes to his detached and observant nature. He has a distinct disdain for seafood and follows a vegetarian diet. Physically, his appearance is also distinct, featuring scales and eye colors different from his Outlaw Star counterpart, as well as a longer, crocodile-like tail.
Within the story of Angel Links, Duuz is a key member of the crew assembled to fight space piracy. He was recruited during a reformation of the crew intended to hire more capable personnel. His primary role on the ship is that of a warrior, the ultimate enforcer whose combat skills are relied upon during dangerous encounters. He fights alongside the ship's captain, Meifon Li, the tactician Valeria Vertone, and the aide Kosei Hida, providing a stoic and unshakeable foundation for the team. Duuz shares a particularly silent and composed kinship with Valeria, as the two are often noted as the most relaxed and professional members of the group. His key relationships are professional and built on mutual respect for their duties aboard the Angel Links, rather than on any deep personal bonds. His character remains largely static and fully formed upon his introduction, serving as a pillar of strength and wisdom for the crew rather than undergoing significant personal development. His presence represents a connection to a non-human, Dragonite perspective in a primarily human-led narrative, showcasing a being of immense power who prefers quiet contemplation to needless action.
