Description
Golden Darkness, whose true name is revealed to be Eve, is a central character whose journey transforms her from a legendary intergalactic assassin into a student discovering friendship and love. She was created as a living weapon, a first-generation biological bioweapon crafted from the cells of the brilliant scientist Tearju Lunatique, who also serves as her genetic mother and raised her with care in her early years. This happy period ended when the organization that commissioned her creation took the young Eve away to be trained as an assassin and forced Tearju to flee for her life, leaving the child alone. Without the influence of her mother, she was honed into the galaxy's most feared killer, earning the moniker "Golden Darkness" and becoming an emotionless, cold-hearted operative known for her formidable skills.

Golden Darkness has the appearance of a young, petite girl, standing 153 centimeters tall with long, flowing blonde hair and striking dark red eyes. Her typical attire consists of a black, form-fitting outfit that complements her quiet and mysterious demeanor. Initially, her personality is as sharp as her abilities; she is dispassionate, withdrawn, and speaks in a reserved, almost robotic manner, rarely showing any emotion. Her most famous declaration is her deep hatred for all things perverted, a sentiment she enforces with swift and violent retribution against anyone she deems lewd, including an oblivious Rito Yuuki. This cold exterior, however, hides a more vulnerable interior. She is a creature of habit who loves to spend her time reading books and has a well-known obsession with taiyaki, a fish-shaped pancake that was the first food offered to her by Rito. She also possesses a significant, almost paralyzing weakness for slimy things like tentacles.

Golden Darkness is introduced in the original To Love-Ru series after being hired by Lacospo, a rejected suitor of Princess Lala Satalin Deviluke, to assassinate Rito Yuuki. Upon arriving on Earth, she finds that Rito does not match the villainous description she was given. After witnessing his inherent kindness and being shown an act of compassion, she decides to break her contract and confront her employer. Although she technically abandoned the mission, she chose to remain on Earth, claiming she would continue to pursue Rito as her target—a transparent excuse to stay in her new, peaceful environment. She lives in her sentient spaceship, the Lunatique, and spends her days roaming the streets of Sainan, reading, eating taiyaki, and gradually becoming a familiar presence in the lives of Rito and his friends. As the sequel, To Love-Ru Darkness, begins, this new life solidifies when she enrolls in Sainan High School at the urging of Rito's younger sister, Mikan, becoming a classmate and a main protagonist of the story.

Her key relationships are the primary catalysts for her emotional development. Her bond with Mikan Yuuki is her first and most essential friendship; Mikan is the only person Golden Darkness calls by her first name, and they share a deep, sisterly connection. Through Mikan, she is drawn into the warmth of the Yuuki household, a stark contrast to her solitary past. Her feelings for Rito Yuuki are complex and form the core of her character arc. While she continues to call him her target and punishes his accidental perverted tendencies, she becomes undeniably protective of him and grows confused by her own emotions. She admits that being near him makes her feel safe and at peace, and she eventually confides in him about her tragic past, a story she has told no one else. In To Love-Ru Darkness, her past catches up with her in the form of Mea Kurosaki, a second-generation transforming weapon who was created by the same organization and considers Golden Darkness her older sister. Mea's mission is to force Golden Darkness to revert to her old, heartless assassin self, creating a significant conflict that tests her new identity.

The most profound development in her story involves the "Darkness" program, a hidden transformation installed within her meant to turn her into the ultimate doomsday weapon, capable of growing horns and destroying entire planets. However, due to a "bug" caused by her budding feelings for Rito, the program's activation does not trigger a lust for destruction but an overwhelming, uncontrollable love of perversion, which manifests as a desire to kill Rito to be one with him. It is only through Rito's unexpected and selfless actions that she is able to regain control of herself. This event allows her to eventually master her Darkness form, which she later uses not for destruction, but to save Rito's life. After this rescue, she is finally able to confess her love for him, though she frames it in her own unique language, declaring him her "love target". Her journey is one of self-discovery, moving from a programmed tool of death to a young woman who chooses to embrace friendship, love, and a new life on Earth.

Notable Abilities

Golden Darkness is known as the most dangerous assassin in the galaxy, a reputation earned through her unique and powerful transformation ability, often called "Trans". This power allows her to freely manipulate the shape and properties of any part of her body at will, effectively turning her into a living weapon. She can transform her arms into massive blades, scythes, or energy cannons, and her hair into a writhing mass of dragon heads or sharp projectiles. This ability is not limited to weapons; she can also grow wings for flight, create tendrils for various uses, and even alter her physical measurements. Her combat skills are augmented by superhuman speed, strength, and resilience, making her a formidable opponent in any direct confrontation. Her most advanced technique is the "Darkness" transformation, a prototype power that, when fully controlled, grants her even greater destructive capabilities, including the potential to open wormholes. Beyond combat, she applies her transformation skills to everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning with exceptional precision.
