Description
Lala Satalin Deviluke is the first princess of the planet Deviluke, born to King Gid Lucion Deviluke and Queen Sephie Michaela Deviluke. She is the older sister of the twins Nana Astar Deviluke and Momo Belia Deviluke. Her story begins when she runs away from home to escape an arranged marriage with a series of unwanted suitors. During her escape, she accidentally teleports into the bathtub of a human high school student named Rito Yuki. To avoid being taken back to her home planet, she hastily claims that Rito is her fiancé after misinterpreting a confession he had intended for another girl. What starts as a convenient pretext gradually develops into genuine romantic feelings for Rito.
Lala is defined by a bright, energetic, and childlike personality. She is impulsive, often acting without considering consequences, and has a carefree, enthusiastic approach to life. Her extroversion makes her highly sociable and popular at school, and she is deeply caring and generous, wanting everyone around her to be happy. She possesses a genius-level intellect that makes her one of the most intelligent beings in her galaxy, yet she is simultaneously absent‑minded and naive about Earth culture, leading to frequent misunderstandings and comedic mishaps. Her lack of modesty, due to having been bathed by maids on her home planet, often puts her in embarrassing situations.
As a member of the Devilukean and Charmian alien races, Lala has superhuman strength, speed, and durability. She can punch with enough force to create a shockwave and crater a wall, and she withstands heavy impacts with little harm. Her most distinctive physical feature is a long, thin tail ending in a heart‑shaped tip, which can fire a destructive laser beam. However, this tail is highly sensitive and considered a weakness, especially among female Devilukeans. Her other notable ability is her remarkable talent for invention. She creates a wide variety of gadgets and devices, many of which appear toy‑like and often malfunction in unpredictable, sometimes compromising ways. Her greatest creation is Peke, a small robot that doubles as a hair clip and can transform into any clothing she wishes, allowing her to adapt to Earth’s fashion.
In the original series To Love‑Ru, Lala serves as the primary female protagonist, driving much of the comedy and romance. In the sequel To Love‑Ru Darkness, her role becomes more secondary as the narrative focus expands to include other characters, but she remains a steady, benevolent presence in Rito’s life and in the household she shares with her sisters. Over the course of the story, she matures emotionally, particularly in her understanding of love and relationships, though she retains her essential joyful and inventive nature. Her key relationships include her bond with Rito, whom she loves sincerely; her close connection with her sisters, especially as they navigate their own romantic interests; and friendships with classmates such as Haruna Sairenji. Lala’s open, affectionate personality and her unique blend of brilliance and innocence make her a central, beloved figure in the series.
