Description
Noire-Neige, known by her real name Kuroba Sayuki, is a central character in the Accel World series. She is a second-year student at Umesato Junior High School and serves as the student council vice-president. In the accelerated world of Brain Burst, she is the Black King, a level nine Burst Linker who leads the Black Legion known as Nega Nebulus. Her battlefield alias is Black Lotus, a slender humanoid avatar with limbs that end in sharp blades possessing an Absolute Cutting Property that can permanently sever parts of an opponent's avatar. She became a Burst Linker at the age of eight and was once one of the Six Kings of Pure Colour. After beheading the first Red King, Red Rider, in an attempt to reach level ten, she was forced into hiding, branded a traitor to the non-aggression pact among the kings.
Noire-Neige is composed and intelligent, often presenting a calm and patient demeanor. She has a habit of drinking tea frequently, whether at school or in a restaurant. Despite her usual composure, she can display sharp temper and jealousy, particularly when other girls show interest in her close ally, Haruyuki Arita. She is highly perceptive and skilled in verbal manipulation, using her words to influence others when necessary. Her knowledge extends beyond Brain Burst; she is deeply informed about network systems, wired connections, and technical details, and she is a capable strategist in both real and accelerated worlds.
Her primary motivation is to reach level ten in Brain Burst and meet its creator, believing that doing so will uncover the true purpose of the program. To achieve this, she enlists the help of Haruyuki, whom she introduces to the game. She values him deeply as more than a subordinate, eventually confessing romantic feelings for him. Her key relationships include Haruyuki, whom she mentors and protects; Takumu Mayuzumi and Chiyuri Kurashima, who join her legion; and her former subordinate Graphite Edge, from whom she learned several Incarnate System techniques. She is estranged from her biological family, having injured her sister, the White King, in a moment of anger after being deceived.
Over the course of the story, Noire-Neige grows from a solitary figure hiding in shame to a determined leader rebuilding her legion. She develops a stronger bond with her comrades and becomes more willing to rely on others, especially Haruyuki. Her most notable abilities as Black Lotus include three special attacks: Death by Barraging, Death by Embracing, and Death by Piercing. Through the Incarnate System, she can execute Vorpal Strike, Starburst Stream, and The Eclipse. She also possesses an Overdrive mode called Mode Green, which temporarily boosts her speed and attack power by turning her purple parts green. Black Lotus lacks feet and moves by hovering with air jets, allowing incredible speed. Among the other kings, she is the only one who has mastered a technique called Soft Act to reinforce the fragile lateral portions of her blades.
