TV-Series
Description
Izumo Kamurogi serves as the supreme commander of the Altairian forces and holds the highest military authority over the abductions targeting the world of Vega. His appearance is that of a middle-aged man with medium-length gray hair and blue eyes, which are known to glow when he activates his special abilities.

In terms of personality, Izumo is typically a calm, cool, and collected commander who presents a composed demeanor in his duties. He is a highly capable leader who views his mission to abduct Rare Igler women from Vega as a holy war necessary for the survival of his dying planet. His outward composure is said to conceal a strong sense of responsibility and使命感 regarding the salvation of Altair. However, this calm facade shatters instantly when the safety of Alicia is threatened, at which point he becomes fiercely emotional and enraged.

The motivations of Izumo are rooted in the desperate crisis facing Altair, a world suffering from the Curse of Eve, which has led to the extinction of its female population and left the planet on the brink of collapse. He is driven by the urgent need to secure women who can survive on Altair to ensure the continuation of his race. A significant part of his history involves a prior mission to Vega, where his craft crashed and he was rescued and nursed back to health by a woman named Alicia. He quickly realized she was a Rare Igler and fell in love with her, but was forced to return to Altair. When his superior, Towano Mykage, discovered Alicia's existence, Izumo was compelled to bring her back, a decision that haunts him throughout the series.

Within the story, Izumo is the highest-ranking officer of Altair and the primary antagonist for much of the series, though his personal tragedy eventually paints him in a more sympathetic light. He commands subordinates such as the volatile Kagura Demuri and the idealistic Jin Musou, though he is frequently frustrated by Kagura’s insubordination and deeply mistrusts Mykage’s secretive and self-serving agendas. His most pivotal role is revealed late in the narrative when he is confirmed to be the biological father of the protagonist, Amata Sora. Izumo recognizes Amata by his unique ability to fly and feels a complex mixture of joy and conflict upon discovering his son.

Key relationships define Izumo’s character arc. His love for Alicia is the emotional core of his actions, leading him to make choices that prioritize her safety above his mission. His relationship with his son, Amata, is tragic; they are separated by the circumstances of Altair’s crisis, and Izumo carries great regret over abandoning his child. He shares a professional but fraught relationship with Mykage, whom he hates and distrusts, correctly identifying him as a manipulative force bent on ruin. His mother, Oriza, is also a significant figure, as she was the creator of the Iron C system, the very technology that ultimately caused the environmental decay and the Curse of Eve on Altair.

Throughout the story, Izumo develops from a seemingly cold and duty-bound commander into a desperate father and tragic figure. Initially resolute in his mission to save Altair, he begins to question the future of a world dependent on a flawed and failing system. After the death of his subordinate Jin, he takes to the battlefield personally. In his final confrontation, he is mortally wounded while trying to protect Alicia from Mykage’s machinations. In his last moments, he reconciles with Amata, realizes that the curse destroying Altair was a direct consequence of the energy system he himself propagated, and dies alongside Alicia’s spirit, entrusting the future to his son.

In terms of notable abilities, Izumo is an exceptionally powerful pilot and a formidable fighter in his own right. He possesses Elemental abilities similar to those used by the warriors of Vega, including psychic powers that allow him to counter attacks from someone like Mykage. He pilots a unique white mecha known as the Afura Gnis or Ahura Gnis, which is considered the supreme machine of Altair. This mecha has the remarkable defensive ability to absorb incoming long-range attacks and return them with doubled force. His ultimate weapon is the Altair Cannon, which channels the full energy of his home planet into a devastating beam capable of piercing the heavens and breaking the union of the legendary Aquarion.
