Description
Aizawa Shouko is a major character in the third anime series of the Jewelpet franchise. She is a 17 to 18-year-old student attending Sunshine Academy and is widely recognized as the leader of the delinquent group within the Plum Class, the class known for housing the school's most problematic students. Physically, she has blonde hair and brown eyes, and her appearance often includes a lollipop in her mouth, which has become a signature part of her design.
Shouko has a tomboyish and rough-around-the-edges personality, embodying the archetype of a school banchou, or delinquent leader. She projects a cool and detached demeanor, but this facade often crumbles due to her somewhat thick-headed nature and a tendency to jump into fights without much forethought. Despite her tough exterior, she has a notable soft spot for things she finds adorable or fluffy, such as the character Rald, and is prone to developing intense crushes. A strong sense of personal honor lies beneath her rebellious attitude; she is known to be fiercely competitive, especially in races, and she always keeps her promises, no matter how small.
The story provides a clear background for how Shouko formed her close-knit circle of friends. Feeling marginalized by other students for being a delinquent, she initially ate lunch alone in the schoolyard. It was there she met Charotte, another outcast. When a rival gang leader named Waniyama confronted them, Charotte defended Shouko, and the bond between them was sealed, with Waniyama eventually defecting to join their group. This trio forms the core of the Plum Class delinquents. Shouko's most significant relationship, however, is with the Jewelpet Angela. Over the course of the series, Angela becomes Shouko's trusted friend and racing partner. Their bond deepens considerably during a major arc where Shouko pursues her dream of becoming a professional motorcycle racer, culminating in them working as a perfect team to win a Grand Prix competition. She also develops a significant crush on the Master of the Strawberry Cafe, which leads to her taking a part-time job there to be near him. Her relationship with her teacher, Iruka, is one of mutual challenge and respect, as he tries to steer her away from delinquency but acknowledges her abilities.
Throughout the series, Shouko demonstrates notable development, particularly regarding her future aspirations. While she begins as a simple delinquent student, her talent for riding motorcycles and motorized scooters becomes a central focus. An expert rider from the start, she eventually dedicates herself to becoming a professional racer, with Angela transforming into her motorcycle. This arc highlights her determination, her refusal to give up on her dreams, and her ability to inspire those close to her. Her abilities extend beyond riding; she is a capable fighter, a surprisingly skilled baker despite her denial of the fact, and she possesses incredible physical stamina and determination. In the epilogue, she has successfully become a professional motorcycle racer, competing alongside Angela.
