TV-Series
Description
Baron Kaidō serves as the headmaster of Root Academy, the high school attended by the main protagonist Kaito Daimon and his friends. He is also a high-ranking officer within the mysterious organization known as P.O.G., the Puzzle of God, where he holds the position of section-chief of Section Phi, an autonomous division within the group.

His background is deeply intertwined with the organization's history and the main characters. He was assigned as a partner to the genius solver Makata Jin, forming a mutually beneficial relationship where Kaidō, as a Giver, would design puzzles to develop Jin's abilities while Jin's rapid solving skills helped Kaidō grow in his craft. Though he is not a Phi-Brain candidate himself, he dedicated his efforts to identifying and nurturing others with such potential. He recognized the puzzle-creating talent in Souji Jikukawa after Jikukawa was rejected by the Orpheus Armlet and brought him into Section Phi.

Most significantly, Baron Kaidō became the legal guardian of Kaito Daimon following the death of Kaito's parents. Kaito's parents were also P.O.G. officers who were training him as a Phi-Brain candidate. Initially, looking after Kaito may have been a duty, but Kaidō genuinely came to care for him as if he were his own son, eventually sending him to a boarding school in England before enrolling him at Root Academy. As the series progresses, Kaidō reveals to Kaito that his parents were not his biological family, but they had taken the Fool's Puzzle in his place to protect him, demonstrating their love for him.

In terms of personality, Baron Kaidō is characterized by his principled stance and his quiet but firm opposition to the direction P.O.G. has taken. He strongly opposes the organization's increasingly lethal methods, specifically their use of philosopher's puzzles designed to kill Solvers rather than simply test their intellect. This places him in direct conflict with other factions within P.O.G. who advocate for more ruthless and murderous approaches. His actions are motivated by a desire to maintain the original standards of puzzle-solving integrity and ethical puzzle creation, aiming to balance P.O.G.'s foundational goals with a sense of morality.

His role in the story is that of a strategic guardian and supporter for Kaito and his group. He facilitates their travel and accommodations as they confront various puzzles and adversaries and strategically guides them toward the heart of the Puzzle of God conflict. He works in concert with Jin to find a way to prevent Count Pythagoras, the former leader of P.O.G., from achieving the God Scrolls and bringing about a vision of world destruction that Jin had foreseen.

Kaidō's key relationships are central to his character development. His bond with Kaito evolves from a sense of duty to a genuine paternal affection. His partnership with Jin is built on mutual respect and a shared goal of opposing P.O.G.'s lethal direction. His relationship with the organization itself is fraught with tension, as his disobedience and protection of Kaito's group ultimately lead to his arrest by P.O.G. for betraying their orders.

As a character, Baron Kaidō is not static. He begins as a mysterious headmaster with clear connections to a shady organization. Through flashbacks and key revelations, his motivations become clear, and he is shown to be a man of principle who is willing to sacrifice his position and freedom to do what he believes is right. His arrest serves as a turning point that solidifies his role as a benevolent, if secretive, ally to the protagonists.

His notable abilities lie not in solving puzzles himself, but in creating them. As a Giver for P.O.G., he is a skilled puzzle designer who creates challenges to test and develop Solvers. He also demonstrates considerable strategic acumen in his role as a section-chief, managing to guide events from behind the scenes for years despite being at odds with his own organization's leadership. Physically, he is typically depicted as a mature, distinguished-looking man with brown hair, brown eyes, and wearing a suit along with glasses and a mustache.
