Description
Emily Amonde is a central character in the first generation arc of the anime, serving as the childhood friend and eventual wife of the protagonist, Flit Asuno. She is first introduced as a 14-year-old girl living in the space colony Nora. Having lost her own mother, she befriended Flit when he arrived at the colony at the age of seven, making her the first person he connected with after the tragedy. Her grandfather is Vargas Dyson, a technical officer at the Arinston Base.
In her youth, Emily is portrayed as a caring and deeply concerned individual who acts as an anchor to normal life for the Gundam-obsessed Flit. She frequently worries about his obsession with building the Gundam and his drive for revenge against the unknown enemy known as the UE. This concern initially manifests as an outright opposition to Flit piloting a mobile suit, as she fears for his safety. Her determination runs deep; her care for Flit compels her to stow away on the battleship Diva to be near him, ignoring evacuation orders for civilians to ensure he is safe. Despite her protests, she does not abandon him. After receiving advice from Laraparly Madorna, she comes to understand that if she truly loves Flit, she should support his decision to fight rather than hold him back, choosing to stay by his side on the Diva. She is often seen carrying a green Haro, a recurring robotic pet in the series.
As the story progresses into the second generation, set twenty-five years later, Emily has married Flit and taken his surname, becoming Emily Asuno. Now 39 years old, she is the mother of two children: a son named Asemu and a daughter named Unoa. Her role shifts from a concerned friend to a supportive wife and a caring mother. She lives with her family on the colony Tordia, where she maintains a stable household. Although she appears less frequently in the frontlines of the conflict, her support remains a foundational element for her family. When her son Asemu chooses to join the military, her demeanor is more subdued; she shows visible concern but does not object to her husband's wishes, demonstrating a quiet, trusting concession as a partner and parent.
By the third generation, Emily is an elderly woman in her sixties. She is present for the birth of her grandson, Kio Asuno. Despite her advanced age, she retains her gentle nature. In a notable extension of her abilities, it is revealed that she contributed to the development of the FX System for the Gundam AGE-FX, utilizing her knowledge of the human body to help enhance her grandson's combat capabilities. Throughout all three generations, Emily's primary motivation remains the protection and emotional support of her family. While she lacks any piloting skills or combat abilities, her strength lies in her resolute emotional support and her capacity for medical and technical knowledge, which she applies to the development of new systems for the Gundam later in life. Her key relationships are almost entirely centered on the Asuno family, specifically her dynamic with the often-driven and distant Flit, her role as a peacemaker between Flit and their son Asemu, and her loving vigilance over her grandchildren. Over the decades, she develops from a headstrong girl trying to pull Flit away from his destiny into a patient matriarch who endures his long absences to support his mission.
