Description
Lamies is a Crimson Denizen who appears in the form of an old man. His true nature is that of a torch controlled by a Crimson Denizen, allowing him to travel unnoticed. He collects the Power of Existence from torches that are on the verge of fading away, a practice that sets him apart from most Denizens because he respects the natural balance between worlds and does not simply prey on humans. This careful, restrained approach defines his character.
He is quiet and caring, deeply concerned with maintaining harmony between the two realms. His usual expression is serious, and he rarely shows his emotions openly. Having lived for thousands of years, he possesses considerable wisdom and a long view of events. He is an old acquaintance of Alastor, the Flame of Heaven, though he does not involve himself in combat.
In the story of Shakugan no Shana III (Final), Lamies continues his role as a neutral observer who avoids direct conflict. He interacts with Shana on occasion, offering guidance or simply being present as events unfold. Later in the series, his own existence reaches its end; in the final episode, he disappears, and a young girl—implied to be his original form or a remnant—appears briefly holding a painting before she too vanishes. This moment marks the conclusion of his long journey.
His key relationship is with Alastor, whom he has known for centuries, and he maintains a respectful but distant connection with other major characters, including Shana. He does not form close bonds with the Flame Hazes or other Denizens, preferring to remain apart and focused on his self‑appointed mission.
Lamies has no notable combat abilities; his role is not that of a fighter. Instead, his power lies in his ability to collect fading torches and his deep understanding of the balance between the human world and the Crimson Realm. His actions are motivated by a desire to preserve that balance, and he is willing to help when it aligns with that goal, but he never takes an active part in the war. His development is subtle: he remains consistent in his principles until the very end, accepting his own dissolution with quiet dignity.
