TV-Series
Description
Behemoth is a male Crimson Lord from the parallel universe known as the Crimson Realm. He is specifically the Crimson Lord contracted to the ancient and powerful Flame Haze, Khamsin Nbh'w. In the final season, he becomes a notable supporting presence within the larger conflict.
Behemoth is also known by his title, the Unwavering Peak. His flame, a visual representation of his power, is brown in color. In terms of personality, Behemoth speaks in a calm, gentle manner reminiscent of an elderly man. However, this serene exterior belies a core of pragmatism and coldness that matches his contractor, Khamsin. He is described as having a personality that appears gentle but is actually ruthless. This is most evident in his willingness to make hard sacrifices; it is suggested that if he had understood a certain situation sooner, he would not have hesitated to sacrifice human lives and destroy an entire city for the sake of maintaining the world's balance. A verbal tic of his is to begin many of his statements with a thoughtful "Hmm."
As a Crimson Lord, Behemoth's primary role in the story is defined by his contract with Khamsin. Their partnership is one of the oldest among the Flame Haze, with Khamsin bearing the appearance of a young boy despite being potentially thousands of years old. In Shakugan no Shana III (Final), he and Khamsin come to play a major role by siding with Shana and Wilhelmina Carmel. Their objective is to oppose the plans of Yuji Sakai, who has merged with the Snake of the Festival, to prevent the creation of a new parallel world called Xanadu.
Behemoth's most significant relationship is with his contractor, Khamsin. They function as a single unit on the battlefield, with Khamsin fighting on the front lines using stone-based abilities while Behemoth provides the vast power and ancient wisdom from their contract. They share a similarly pragmatic and businesslike approach to their duty, showing little outward emotion even in the face of great danger.
Behemoth himself does not undergo significant personal development, as his character remains largely static, representing the ancient and unyielding will of the Crimson Realm's power. His development is instead tied to the arc of his contractor, Khamsin, who fights alongside the other Flame Haze and ultimately meets his end in battle right before the climax of the war. Through Khamsin, Behemoth contributes to the final struggle, helping to ensure that Shana's countermeasure to the creation of Xanadu is successful.
Regarding abilities, Behemoth's power is channeled entirely through his contractor, Khamsin. As a Crimson Lord, he is the source of Khamsin's formidable power of existence. This power allows Khamsin to perform great feats of magic, most notably the ability to create and control massive stone golems and manipulate the earth itself. As the Unwavering Peak, Behemoth's nature is perfectly suited to these abilities of solidity, endurance, and immense, immovable force.
