Description
Buhara is a Gourmet Hunter who serves as one of the two proctors for the second phase of the 287th Hunter Examination, working alongside his colleague Menchi. As his classification suggests, Buhara is driven by a profound love for food, and his primary motivation in both his career and his role as an examiner is the pursuit and enjoyment of exceptional culinary delights.

Buhara is a man of immense physical stature, characterized by his hulking frame and a very large potbelly that reflects his extraordinary appetite. His appearance is often described as intimidating or slow, which belies his true nature. Despite his size, he is an intelligent, reasonable, and generally easygoing individual. This calm and friendly personality stands in stark contrast to the highly selective and often hot-tempered nature of his fellow examiner, Menchi. He possesses a surprising level of common sense and perceptiveness, which allows him to assess situations with a level head when others might lose their temper.

In his role as an examiner, Buhara takes his responsibilities seriously but approaches the test through the lens of his own expertise. For the first part of the second phase, he sets a challenge that aligns with his personal tastes: the examinees must hunt a pig from the Visca Forest Preserve and prepare a roasted pork dish. While he appears to be presenting a simple task, he has a tricky side, telling the participants they can catch any boar when the only species available is the incredibly dangerous Great Stamp, a carnivorous pig. This suggests an expectation that candidates demonstrate resourcefulness and survival skills.

The most memorable moment of his examination is his demonstration of his legendary appetite. To the astonishment of the examinees, including Kurapika who notes that the quantity is larger than Buhara's own body weight, he consumes the meat of seventy entire roasted pigs in a single sitting. This feat points to an inhumanly fast digestive process. After this meal, he is satisfied and passes all seventy participants who successfully completed the cooking challenge.

His key relationship is with Menchi, and he often serves as a voice of reason when her perfectionism takes over. When Menchi disapproves of the results and declares sushi as a new, impossible test, failing all the candidates out of frustration, Buhara questions her choice and tries to calm her down. Though his attempts at reasoning with her fail, he does not resort to anger. When an examinee named Todo tries to retaliate against Menchi for her unfair judgment, Buhara steps in and sends the large man flying into a wall with a single palm thrust. When Menchi asks why he intervened, he responds that if he had not, she would have killed the man in her rage. This act demonstrates not only his immense physical strength but also his protective instinct and his clear understanding of Menchi's volatile capabilities.

Beyond the Hunter Exam, Buhara appears later during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc, where he is seen participating in the voting process alongside other Hunters. This shows that he remains an active member of the Hunter Association.

In terms of notable abilities, Buhara possesses several remarkable traits. His superhuman appetite and the capacity to consume vast quantities of food, far exceeding his own body weight, is his most distinctive trait. He also has great physical strength, enough to knock out a large man like Todo with one effortless blow. As a professional Hunter, he is proficient in Nen, the ability to manipulate one's own life energy, which is a prerequisite for his status, though his specific Nen type and techniques are not publicly detailed. Furthermore, he demonstrates heightened perception, as he was able to sense the massive, malicious aura or bloodlust emanating from Hisoka Morow after the magician witnessed Menchi's outburst. This perceptiveness allows him to identify dangerous individuals, and he later admits to favoring Hisoka as the most notable examinee of that year.
