TV-Series
Description
Neferpitou, often called Pitou, is a cat-humanoid Chimera Ant and the firstborn of the three Royal Guards created to serve the Chimera Ant King, Meruem. They were born from the Chimera Ant Queen with a combination of human and feline genetics, resulting in an androgynous appearance: wavy white hair, cat ears, a long white tail, and bright red eyes. Their body is slender yet powerful, with sharp claws and insect-like leg joints. Their gender is ambiguous in the source material, and their official depiction varies between presentations.
Neferpitou's personality undergoes a notable shift across the story. Upon introduction, they are driven purely by instinct and curiosity, behaving like a predatory cat that toys with its prey. They kill without malice or hesitation, treating combat as a game and showing no understanding of the value of human life. This lack of moral framework makes them chillingly unpredictable. They are highly intelligent, quickly learning about human anatomy and Nen, and they display a playful yet ruthless demeanor. Over time, however, their devotion to Meruem deepens beyond mere instinct. They develop a genuine, selfless loyalty that eventually leads them to prioritise the King's wishes—even if that means protecting a human the King cares about. This growth culminates in moments of compassion, such as when they desperately work to save Komugi's life.
Their primary motivation is absolute service to Meruem. Unlike some other Royal Guards, they do not project their own ideals onto the King; they accept Meruem as he is and exist solely to fulfill his commands and protect his well-being. This devotion drives every action, from slaughtering intruders to performing life-saving surgery on a human.
Neferpitou plays a central antagonistic role in the Chimera Ant arc. Their first major act is killing the experienced Hunter Kite, a figure deeply important to the protagonist Gon Freecss. Neferpitou later uses their Nen ability to preserve and puppet Kite's corpse, an act that becomes the catalyst for Gon's anguished transformation into an adult form. After Meruem's birth, Neferpitou serves as the King's guard, overseeing the palace with their immense En and carrying out orders such as healing Komugi when she is gravely wounded. They later confront Gon in a desperate battle, ultimately being killed after Gon makes a deadly Nen vow. Even after death, their lingering Nen continues to attack, so strong is their final instinct to protect the King.
Key relationships include their fellow Royal Guards: Shaiapouf, who often finds Neferpitou's curiosity frustrating, and Menthuthuyoupi, who relies on them for strategy. Their bond with Meruem is the most defining—Neferpitou is unwavering in their service, even when the King briefly lashes out at them. The relationship with Gon is one of enmity and consequence, as Neferpitou's actions push Gon to his absolute limit.
As a Specialist Nen user, Neferpitou possesses abilities that blend healing, puppetry, and combat enhancement. Their main ability is Doctor Blythe, a giant marionette-like construct that can perform extremely advanced surgical repairs, reattach limbs, and even prevent corpses from decaying. While Doctor Blythe is active, Neferpitou cannot move, leaving them vulnerable but focused. This ability was originally developed to repeatedly heal Kite so they could fight him again, but later it is used selflessly to save Komugi. Their other signature ability is Terpsichora, a spectral puppeteer that takes control of Neferpitou's body, pushing their physical capabilities beyond normal limits for devastating offensive power. Terpsichora can also be used to puppeteer other corpses, including Kite's body. Neferpitou's En is exceptionally refined, extending over several kilometers and allowing them to detect individual presences, movements, and even Nen strength in real time. In addition to these named techniques, they possess superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes, capable of closing vast distances in an instant and overwhelming even elite Hunters.
Neferpitou's character arc is one of the most tragic in the series. They begin as a soulless, instinct-driven predator but gradually develop the capacity for genuine care and sacrifice. This evolution is cut short by their death, but not before they demonstrate that even a being created for destruction can learn to act out of something other than raw instinct. Their presence in the story serves as a narrative force that raises the stakes and forces the protagonists to confront overwhelming power and moral ambiguity.
