Description
Momochiyo Honda is the main female character of Osu!! Karate-bu and serves as the manager of the Kangokou Karate Club at Kansai Fifth Industrial High School. She first meets Takagi when he comes to her aid after she is harassed by delinquents, and she becomes captivated by his strength and kindness. Inspired by that encounter, she joins the karate club as its manager and quickly becomes Takagi’s love interest.
Her personality is initially that of a sweet-natured but somewhat scatterbrained girl, often coming across as a mascot character rather than a traditional heroine. She is fundamentally honest, gentle, and deeply loyal. Her devotion to Takagi is unwavering; when he is forced to leave Osaka for Tokyo, she follows him without hesitation, and later she accompanies him to Africa as part of a humanitarian mission. Despite her gentle demeanor, she possesses a remarkably powerful cry that can shatter windows—a trait that is both humorous and disarming.
Over the course of the story, Momochiyo develops from a naive admirer into a more capable and resolute partner. Takagi trains her in basic self‑defense, and she learns to handle herself in dangerous situations. She also displays a jealous side: for instance, when she mistakes an invitation letter for a love letter from another woman, she confronts Takagi angrily. Her appearance changes over time; she starts with a black bob cut, later grows her hair long, and after the Tokyo arc her hair color shifts to gray. Physically, she is 156 cm tall with measurements of 81‑59‑86.
Momochiyo’s primary role in the narrative is as Takagi’s emotional anchor and most loyal supporter. She provides a grounding presence amid the escalating conflicts and constant battles. Her relationship with Takagi evolves from admiration to deep mutual affection, and she stands by him through his rise as the Osaka Soul and his struggles in Tokyo and beyond. Her own growth is subtle but meaningful: she transforms from a passive observer into someone who actively shares in Takagi’s burdens, even risking her own safety for his sake. Her combat training, while never making her a frontline fighter, allows her to fend off threats when necessary. Through her loyalty, sincerity, and occasional comedic moments, Momochiyo remains an integral part of Takagi’s journey and a central figure in the story’s emotional core.
