Description
Elyurias is a central, enigmatic figure in the world of No. 6, best understood as a powerful, god-like entity rather than a human character. Its origins are deeply tied to the natural world, specifically the Mao Forest, where it was worshipped by the indigenous Forest Folk as their Forest God. The name Elyurias was given to this being by a scientist named Rou, who would later play a role in the development of the dystopian city No. 6.

Physically, Elyurias does not possess a permanent human form. Its true appearance is that of an enormous wasp, with a golden abdomen and rainbow-colored wings and stinger. This form is speculated to be either its natural state or a shape it adopts out of convenience, particularly for laying its parasitic eggs within living hosts. Elyurias demonstrates a high level of intelligence and is consistently referred to with feminine pronouns due to its role in laying eggs, though its true gender remains ambiguous.

The core of Elyuriass personality is defined by its relationship with the Forest Folk and its subsequent rage against the city of No. 6. For generations, a symbiotic pact existed: the Forest Folk protected a special vessel called a Godly Bed, in which Elyurias would lay its eggs, and in return, Elyurias provided protection for the people, the forest, and the land. This system was destroyed when the authorities of No. 6 massacred the Forest Folk to seize control of the forest's land, an event known as the Mao Massacre. This act of violence transformed Elyurias from a protector into an agent of revenge. Its primary motivation is to retaliate against No. 6 for annihilating its worshippers and desecrating its home. This motivation is not simply destructive chaos; it carries a sense of ancient justice, as Elyurias seeks to reclaim what was taken and punish the perpetrators.

Throughout the story, Elyurias operates as a hidden, driving force behind the mysterious deaths and chaos that plague No. 6, especially during the Holy Day festival. Its ability to lay parasitic wasps inside human hosts becomes a weapon of mass retaliation. The entity is eventually reborn into the physical world through a human host, Safu, a young woman who was being experimented upon by the scientists of No. 6. Elyurias makes contact with Safu, explains the situation, and asks to use her body to destroy the city. Safu agrees to become its medium, and in return, Elyurias offers to grant her one final wish, which is to see Shion, the person she loves. In this fused state, Elyurias appears as Safu, retaining some of her memories and emotions before fully manifesting as the giant wasp.

The key relationship is with Safu, as her willing sacrifice allows Elyurias to act directly in the world. Another critical relationship is with Nezumi, who is a Singer and the last survivor of the Forest Folk. As the last of its worshippers, Nezumi has a unique connection to Elyurias, being able to hear its song and, in the climax, communicate with it directly. When Shion and Nezumi confront Elyurias, it is Nezumi who acts as the intermediary. Elyurias recognizes him, recalling when he was an infant, and addresses him as Singer, showing that their bond, though strained, is still intact.

Elyuriass role evolves from a background myth to an active, decisive force in the finale. While its goal is to destroy No. 6, it is not entirely without mercy. When Nezumi sings, it creates a space for negotiation. Shion pleads with Elyurias to grant humanity one last chance instead of annihilating them. Elyurias is skeptical but ultimately agrees to relent, revealing that it is not a simple monster but a being capable of listening and changing its course based on the conviction of others. Its final act in the anime is to spread its power across the city, removing the parasitic wasps from the citizens, tearing down the walls of No. 6, and healing the mortally wounded Shion and Nezumi. This demonstrates its ultimate ability, which is not only to destroy but also to heal and to restore the natural order by force.

The notable abilities of Elyurias are extensive and central to the plot. Its primary ability is reproduction through parasitic wasps. These wasps, often referred to as its children, are laid as larvae inside human hosts. Once mature, they burst from the host, causing rapid aging and death. Elyurias can also exert control over these hosts. Beyond this, its power is more mystical, including the ability to heal fatal wounds and dismantle the infrastructure of an entire city, as seen when it tears down No. 6s walls. It can communicate through a song only certain individuals, like Nezumi and Safu, can hear, and it can manifest physically using a human as a medium. This collection of abilities blurs the line between a biological organism and a force of nature, cementing Elyurias as a god-like entity whose power is both a curse and a potential salvation for humanity.
