Description
Mira Tsukumo, known in the Japanese version as Mirai Tsukumo, is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. She is the wife of Kazuma Tsukumo and the mother of Yuma Tsukumo and Kari Tsukumo (Akari Tsukumo in the manga). Both she and her husband share a background as adventurers and explorers, traveling together to collect numerous Aztec and Inca artifacts, which they stored in the attic above Yuma’s bedroom. Her Japanese name, Mirai, means “future,” a detail that ties thematically to the series.

In terms of personality, Mira is depicted as a kind and caring mother in Yuma’s flashbacks. She was a warm presence in his early life and played a key role in shaping his worldview. She taught Yuma the concept of “kattobingu” — a spirited, never-give-up attitude that becomes the core of his dueling philosophy and personal motto. Her influence on Yuma is deeply emotional; he carries her lessons with him throughout his journey. Her motivations are not explicitly detailed, but her actions reflect a desire to nurture her son and protect her family.

Her role in the story is largely that of a background figure seen through memories. In the anime, she appears only in flashback sequences for most of the series, until a brief reappearance in episode 121, where she and Kazuma are shown watching over Yuma and Astral as they leave the Astral World. In the manga, she is the one who gives Yuma the Emperor’s Key, which sets the main plot in motion, whereas in the anime that role is given to Kazuma. She has no direct involvement in the dueling plot and does not display any notable supernatural or dueling abilities. Her development is minimal, as she remains a static symbol of Yuma’s family and the loving home that shaped him. Her key relationships are with her husband, her children, and through them, the wider cast of the series.
