Description
Kaoru Yagi is a student at Kaimei High School and a member of the school's Broadcasting Department. She is known for her exceptional academic performance, consistently ranking at the top of her grade level. Physically, she is of average height with brown hair that falls to her chest and brown eyes, presenting the appearance of a typical teenage girl. However, her most defining external trait is her remarkable ability to maintain a completely straight face in any situation, rarely showing emotion.

Initially, Yagi comes across as listless and lacking in energy, a state that worries her friend, Ayumi Kuramoto. Concerned, Kuramoto asks the Sket Dan, the school's problem-solving club, to help cheer her up. When the Sket Dan first attempts to engage with her, Yagi is cold and refuses to talk, making cryptic remarks that nobody would believe anything she says. This behavior hints at a deep-seated trauma rather than simple shyness or apathy. It is revealed that Yagi has a painful history involving a false accusation of cheating on an exam during her first year of high school. The rumor, spread by a jealous classmate, was widely believed due to Yagi’s quiet and blunt personality, and the incident left her feeling isolated and betrayed.

Her role in the story revolves around this past trauma when she is once again caught in a suspicious situation involving a DVD containing exam questions. The Sket Dan, however, chooses to trust her completely where others did not before. Through their investigation and reasoning, they are able to prove her innocence and expose the true culprit behind the cheating scandal, allowing Yagi to finally clear her name and regain her lost vitality.

Following this incident, Yagi appears occasionally in stories related to the Broadcasting Department or major school events at Kaimei High. She serves as a reporter for the club and grows in popularity within the school due to her cool demeanor and high grades. In later developments, she is revealed to be the older sister of Takuto, the leader of a group known as Team Pocket. Normally calm and cool, she becomes frightening when angry, and her younger brother is careful to behave around her. Her own words once unintentionally influenced a major decision in the future of the Sket Dan's leader, Bossun. Beyond her intellectual abilities, her primary notable trait is her stone-faced composure, which is so consistent it becomes a defining characteristic of her personality.
