Kiyoshi Date, more commonly known as Dante, is a student at Kaimei High School and the vocalist for the visual kei band JardiN. His appearance strongly reflects his musical interests, featuring purple and black spiked hair that often falls over one of his eyes, along with the use of lipstick and nail polish. He frequently accessorizes with scarves, jewelry, and belts, contributing to his gothic stage persona.

Despite his striking and confident onstage presence, Dante is characterized by a deeply shy and easily embarrassed personality in everyday situations. This contrast is central to his character, as he has significant difficulty expressing himself clearly. He tends to speak in short, abstract, and often nonsensical phrases that require interpretation by those listening to him. This unique way of communicating is referred to by other characters as visual kei or visual language, a mode of speech adopted by some shy individuals who struggle with communication, though Dante seems to use it both for that reason and to cultivate his cool, gothic image. His true interests further contradict his outward appearance; although he embraces a dark and dramatic style, he is a known fan of the shonen manga Naruto.

Dante frequently seeks the assistance of the Sket Dan, the school's problem-solving club, due to his tendency to lose important items and his inability to articulate his problems directly. In his first appearance, he is brought to the club by a classmate after being found looking lost outside their room. The Sket Dan members struggle to decipher his abstract clues, eventually realizing he was trying to find a lost ticket for a concert by his favorite visual kei band, Dream of Lie. On another occasion, he requests help finding a mechanical pencil that went missing, which he had used for a love charm by writing the name of a girl he liked, Yukie Izumisawa, on a piece of paper inside it.

Key relationships in his life often involve misunderstandings due to his reserved nature. He once developed a mutual crush on a girl named Koma, but because both have immense difficulty expressing their feelings, the situation was fraught with problems and misunderstandings. They ultimately decided they were not suited for each other. He also has a significant relationship with his bandmate Rodan, who once asked the Sket Dan for help when Dante underwent a sudden and drastic personality shift. This occurred after Dante fell asleep listening to a televised enka concert, becoming wholly enamored with the music style and abandoning his visual kei image, going so far as to change his way of speaking and request to be called by his real name. The Sket Dan attempted to revert him by knocking him unconscious and having him listen to visual kei music, which proved successful. However, this method had an unintended side effect, as he soon reappeared fully immersed in a new obsession after falling asleep listening to anime songs.
