Description
Akiko Minase is the mother of Nayuki Minase and the aunt of Yuichi Aizawa, serving as his guardian when he returns to their snowy hometown after a seven-year absence. She is a young-looking woman with an appearance that often leads to her being mistaken for Nayuki’s older sister. She has light skin, purple-tinged blue hair that she typically wears in a long braid over her right shoulder, light blue eyes, and stands 165 cm tall, weighing 50 kg. Her personality is defined by remarkable calmness, kindness, and a compassionate nature that rarely displays anger or sternness. She is known for her rapid acceptance of any request with the simple phrase of agreement, "ryōkai". She readily takes in and cares for others, treating characters like Makoto Sawatari and Ayu Tsukimiya as family when they need shelter. Her acceptance of unusual circumstances suggests an underlying awareness of the town's mystical elements. Very little is known about her age or occupation, details that remain unknown even to her own daughter. She raised Nayuki entirely on her own after Nayuki's father left when the girl was very young, resulting in no paternal presence in their lives. Akiko is highly proficient in household management, particularly cooking, and is famous for her homemade special jam, a mysterious orange concoction that she believes is delicious, but which her daughter and nephew find terrifying. In the main narrative, she provides a stable home environment for Yuichi, Makoto, and Ayu. Her role becomes critically important when she suffers critical injuries in a car accident while returning from buying a strawberry cake for Nayuki. This event hospitalizes her and triggers a severe depression in Nayuki, who blames herself. Akiko's eventual recovery coincides with the resolution of the story's emotional conflicts. In the OVA Kanon Kazahana, which takes place in the spring following the main events, she has fully recovered and resumed her normal life. Beyond the primary narrative, Akiko appears as a playable fighter in the spin-off game Eternal Fighter Zero, using household items as weapons including a broom, kitchen knives, a vacuum cleaner, and a fire extinguisher. Her name combines the characters for autumn and child, reflecting her calm demeanor and September 23rd birthday, while her surname means water and swift current.
