Description
Bathym de Emna Alaindelon, known more commonly as Alaindelon, is a transdimensional demon serving within the Great Demon Lord's kingdom. His full name signifies his noble demon lineage, though he almost always uses the shortened form. In terms of appearance, Alaindelon is a muscular individual whose look is strikingly reminiscent of the singer Freddie Mercury, sharing a similar hairstyle, moustache, and flamboyant mannerisms. His typical attire consists of casual clothes such as sweatshirts and boxer shorts, though he readily adopts other outfits like school uniforms or swimwear when the situation calls for it.
Alaindelon's personality is defined by a comical eccentricity. He often tries to maintain an air of seriousness, but his perceived incompetence at ordinary tasks consistently undermines these efforts. Despite lacking conventional physical strength, he demonstrates remarkable durability. He also shows very little concern for hiding his demonic nature while in the human world, openly using his powers in front of others without regard for the reactions he causes.
His primary and most notable ability is dimensional transport. This power allows him to travel instantaneously between dimensions or to different locations within the same world. To use this ability on others, he dramatically splits his own body open and envelops them within his form, releasing them at the desired destination while often shouting "TRANSFER!!!". This act of splitting himself open consistently induces panic or disgust in human observers, a fact that does little to deter him. His power provides crucial strategic mobility and rescue capabilities for the protagonists, making him a valuable ally despite his oddities.
In the story, Alaindelon makes his initial appearance floating down a river while feigning death. It is here that Tatsumi Oga discovers him, and the infant Beelzebub IV emerges from Alaindelon's body, an event that begins Oga's role as the baby's caretaker. Though assumed dead after this encounter, Alaindelon survives and becomes a frequent presence, often appearing to pester Oga and his friend Furuichi. He eventually moves into Furuichi's home after declaring him a noble person, much to Furuichi's chagrin. Later, he assists the demon maid Hilda with a variety of tasks, ranging from household chores to intelligence work. He also investigates supernatural threats at Ishiyama High School and observes battles involving Oga. When Furuichi suffers life-threatening injuries, Alaindelon reacts with great urgency, donning samurai armor to transport him to safety and displaying profound emotional distress over his condition.
Alaindelon has several key relationships that define his role. He is deeply devoted to his daughter, Angelica, prioritizing her safety above all else, even in dangerous situations. His relationship with Furuichi is one of idealization; he addresses him as Furuichi-dono and persistently voices his admiration, though Furuichi usually finds this behavior unsettling and strange. With Oga, he maintains a pragmatic working relationship, frequently using his transport power to help Oga bypass the fifteen-meter distance limit that binds him to Beelzebub, which would otherwise deliver a fatal shock. He works closely with Hilda as well, often voicing her unspoken thoughts and asserting that she secretly has faith in Oga's capabilities, despite her denials. Over the course of the narrative, Alaindelon develops from a bizarre, seemingly useless demon into a loyal and surprisingly reliable ally, showing profound care for those he considers noble, even as his eccentric behavior continues to bewilder those around him.
