Description
Ichiro Shinjo, also known as Ichiro Alex Rodriguez Shinjo, is a character from the anime and manga series Beelzebub. He is a 17-year-old second-year student at Saint Ishiyama Academy, where he also serves as the captain of the renowned boxing club. His birthday is on July 27. Physically, Shinjo is a good-looking teenager of average height, standing at approximately 172 to 173 centimeters, with light, wavy blonde hair and blue eyes.

His personality is notably situational, meaning his behavior tends to shift depending on the context of the situation he finds himself in. At his core, he possesses a somewhat heroic demeanor and demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and care for his school and the people within it. This is particularly evident in his initial motivations within the story; he holds a distinct animosity towards the protagonist, Tatsumi Oga, largely due to what he perceives as Oga's ruthless and disruptive persona. This disdain compels him to seek a confrontation with Oga, as he views him as a threat to the order of Saint Ishiyama Academy. Despite this initial hostility, he is not blinded by his bias and is capable of openly acknowledging Oga's strengths in battle, just as he does his flaws.

Shinjo's role in the story is primarily as a supporting character and a rival figure. He is a member of the Rokkisei, the group of the six strongest fighters at the academy. Perhaps his most prominent role is becoming the new president of the student council after the previous president, Izuma, resigns. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing school events, such as the Saint Saint X'mas competition, where he even serves as a judge for a cooking match, a task he finds utterly disgusting and physically unpleasant.

Regarding key relationships, his interactions are most defined by his rivalry with Oga. Their initial encounter sees Shinjo attacking Oga, who endures the blows while trying to pass the demon baby Beel onto his opponent, resulting in a comedic yet decisive defeat for the boxing captain. While he shows open contempt for Oga's methods, he maintains a certain degree of respect for his comrades within the Rokkisei, though the specifics of those bonds remain largely undefined. He also interacts with other students and faculty through his duties as student council president.

In terms of character development, Shinjo transitions from an antagonist motivated by contempt for Ishiyama's delinquent students to a more established figure of authority within the school as the student council president. His early defeat at Oga's hands serves as a humbling moment, shifting him from an active challenger to a more observational and administrative role within the story. He does not persistently seek revenge but instead focuses on his responsibilities.

Shinjo's most notable abilities stem from his position as the captain of the boxing club. He is regarded as the second-best high school boxer in the nation, famous for being able to finish all of his matches with a single one-hit knockout. On multiple occasions, he favors using his boxing gloves in combat, and he is strong enough to defeat a group like the MK5 with ease. However, his power is put into perspective when he faces Oga; while his punches are initially effective, Oga ultimately avoids them and defeats Shinjo with a single punch of his own, mirroring the boxing captain's own signature technique. Beyond his fighting prowess, he also has an unexpected talent for playing the piano.
