TV-Series
Description
Jabberwock is a major antagonist in the series and serves as the leader of Behemoth's 34 Pillar Division. He is also the son of Behemoth, the division's founder. Jabberwock is a massive and powerfully built demon with red eyes and crimson hair, which he often wears in a long ponytail. His face is marked by several scars, the most prominent being a large one that runs across his right eye and down to his left cheek.
Jabberwock's personality is defined by his boorish, haughty, and barbaric attitude, which has earned him the nickname the Crazy Dragon. His arrogance is immediately apparent, as he initially dismisses the protagonist, Oga, as an unworthy opponent. However, underneath his ferocious exterior lies a genuine enjoyment of combat. Like Oga and the human delinquent Hidetora Tojo, Jabberwock is battle-crazed and finds immense pleasure in a good fight. He is not above complimenting his opponents when they prove their strength, and he eventually comes to see Oga as a worthy rival. His recklessness and nasty temper are notable flaws; in the past, these traits led to his expulsion from the 34 Pillar Division, though he was later reinstated by his father, who wished for him to be his successor.
Within the story, Jabberwock acts as a primary antagonist during the Akumano Academy arc. He first appears after a confrontation between Oga and the elderly Behemoth. Showing his cruel and opportunistic nature, Jabberwock has his pet dragon, Sodom, a Grand Bahamut, swallow Oga's associate Hilda to capture her. He then fights Oga, easily dismissing the young man's strongest attacks. Jabberwock holds a position of great power within the demon world's military structure but is reluctant to serve under Lord En, a young demon lord, whom he disrespectfully refers to as a stupid kid. This reluctance contrasts with his father's more subservient stance. He later reappears during a conflict in the human world, where he is summoned by the character Takayuki Furuichi. In this instance, Jabberwock takes temporary control of Furuichi's body to engage in battle once more.
Jabberwock's key relationships are central to his character. His dynamic with his father, Behemoth, is significant, as the elder demon continually brings his wayward son back into the fold despite his volatile nature. He also has an important connection to a character named Laymia, as the two were acquaintances in their childhood, though Jabberwock later reminds her that their current roles as general and subordinate are far removed from that simpler time. His rivalry with Oga forms the core of his antagonistic role, and he also shows a measure of respect for the powerful demon world figure Saotome, wishing to face him in battle.
In terms of development, Jabberwock begins as an overwhelmingly powerful and haughty force who believes no human can challenge him. His arrogance is shattered when Oga, using accelerated demonic techniques, manages to land a destructive punch that defeats him. This event marks a turning point, as Oga proves himself a true equal. Later, when summoned by Furuichi, Jabberwock demonstrates a more pragmatic and observant side, quickly assessing the situation and recognizing Tojo from their previous encounter.
Jabberwock possesses considerable abilities that make him a fearsome opponent. He demonstrates immense physical strength and durability, withstanding a full-power Zebul Blast from Oga and a German suplex from the powerful Tojo without being defeated. He also exhibits the unique ability to temporarily possess the body of the person who summoned him using his own demonic tissue, allowing him to fight using their physical form. His ferocity in combat is such that he can hold his own against multiple high-level opponents simultaneously, including Oga when synchronized with the demon baby Beelzebub.
