TV-Series
Description
En-Oh, also known as En, is the firstborn son of the Great Demon Lord and the older brother of the series' titular character, Beelzebub. As the eldest child, he holds the position of the presumed crown prince of the Demon World. His background establishes him as a direct rival to his younger brother for the throne, though his primary reason for traveling to the human world is his father's directive to destroy humanity.
In terms of personality, En is characterized by a highly immature and childish demeanor. He shares his younger brother's short temper and is extremely prone to crying, throwing violent tantrums when he does not get his way. This behavior underscores his nature as a spoiled and self-righteous individual who considers himself above others. Despite his royal status and immense power, En possesses a playful and curious side. He is particularly fascinated by human world video games; upon discovering a PlayStation 2, he becomes so enthralled that he voluntarily postpones his mission to end the world to play it. This combination of destructive power and video game enthusiasm marks him as a theatrical and somewhat comedic character.
En-Oh’s primary motivation in the story is to fulfill his father's command by destroying humanity. He also seeks to involve his younger brother, Beelzebub, in this plan, wishing to unite forces with him. In his role within the narrative, he serves as a significant antagonist and a foil to the protagonist, Tatsumi Oga. His arrival introduces a major political and familial conflict from the Demon World into the otherwise chaotic human setting.
His key relationships are central to his character arc. His relationship with his father, the Great Demon Lord, appears distant, as he is sent on a mission without much personal guidance, leading to moments where he feels like an unwanted child. His relationship with Oga evolves from pure antagonism to something more complex, as Oga is shown comforting En when he expresses feelings of being unloved. He also has a minor romantic interest in the character Lamia, which creates a light-hearted rivalry with another character, Furuichi. En is constantly attended by his trio of maids, who serve him and comment on his power, revealing that his full-scale tantrums are capable of destroying large portions of the Demon World.
While En does not undergo a dramatic personality overhaul, his character does experience subtle development. A notable moment occurs when Oga consoles him about his fears of being unwanted, revealing a hidden vulnerability beneath his arrogant and destructive exterior. This shows that despite being a powerful demon prince, he craves parental affection and recognition.
Regarding his abilities, En has immense demonic power that even frightens powerful demons like Behemoth, as the potential damage he could cause in the human world is considered too colossal. His specific power is pyrokinesis, or fire control. Unlike Beelzebub, whose tantrums produce lightning, En’s emotional outbursts spontaneously generate massive amounts of fire. The destructive capacity of this power is immense; it is said that a complete tantrum from him once caused a sea to boil for seven days and seven nights, destroyed thirty villages, and was far more devastating than anything seen from Baby Beel's temper fits.
