Description
Itsuki Takeuchi is a high school student and a central supporting character in Initial D Second Stage, known for being the boisterous and enthusiastic best friend of the protagonist, Takumi Fujiwara. He works part-time alongside Takumi and their senior, Koichiro Iketani, at a gas station in the town of Shibukawa. Standing at 163 centimeters tall, Itsuki is often the most vocal member of his group, his loud and excitable nature making him a primary source of comic relief within the series. He is characterized by an unwavering, almost obsessive passion for street racing and a deep admiration for the culture surrounding it.

Itsuki's primary motivation is his dream of becoming a respected street racer. This ambition is most clearly demonstrated by his eagerness to own a car, specifically wanting to purchase a Toyota AE86 Levin to mirror Takumi's famous Trueno and form a celebrated "Eighty-Six duo". However, his impulsive nature and lack of technical knowledge lead him to a significant mistake: he uses his saved money to buy a car, excitedly believing it to be an AE86, but it is actually the much weaker and less capable AE85 Levin. This blunder becomes a source of embarrassment and a key learning experience for him.

Within the story of Second Stage, Itsuki's role is multifaceted. He serves as the catalyst who first brings a disinterested Takumi into the world of mountain pass racing. He provides a grounded, everyday perspective on the racing events, often expressing the awe and excitement that the stoic Takumi keeps hidden. His relationships are central to his character. His friendship with Takumi is his most important bond; despite Takumi's quiet and often dismissive demeanor, he genuinely cares for Itsuki, offering him comfort and encouragement after his embarrassing car purchase. Itsuki also looks up to his senior Iketani and is a self-proclaimed, optimistic member of the local team, the Akina SpeedStars. He also has interactions with rival racers; for instance, he and Takumi encounter members of the Emperor team at a convenience store, where Itsuki's proud claims about Akina's fastest car are met with scorn.

Over the course of the series, Itsuki undergoes subtle but meaningful development. His initial shame over buying the AE85 is transformed by Takumi, who demonstrates that a driver's skill can be more important than the car's power. This lesson helps Itsuki accept his vehicle and strive to improve his own abilities. Later, he follows his own ambition by using his first paycheck from his full-time job at the gas station to install a turbocharger in his 85, increasing its horsepower to 150. While he never reaches the prodigious skill level of Takumi, he shows dedication to learning, even receiving personal snow-driving lessons from Iketani to master drifting techniques on slippery roads.

In terms of notable abilities, Itsuki is not presented as a highly skilled driver like his friend. He is inexperienced and his driving style is often described as aggressive and unrefined. His true talent lies not in racing but in his intuition and emotional support; he demonstrates a deep understanding of Takumi's feelings and is often the one to provide comfort or a listening ear, such as after Takumi suffers a traumatic engine failure. He is also able to sense when Takumi is on the verge of victory, even when the outcome seems impossible to others. While he may not be a racing prodigy, Itsuki’s unwavering spirit, loyalty, and comic energy make him an integral and beloved part of the story.
