Description
Akito Wanijima is a central character from the Air Gear series, known for being the singular body that houses three distinct personalities: the gentle Akito, the violent Agito, and the powerful Lind. This young boy is a member of the Kogarasumaru team and holds the title of the Fang King, a ruler of the Bloody Road. Physically, Akito has a slim build, delicate features, and a short stature, which often leads to him being mistaken for a girl. He almost always wears an eyepatch, and the position of this eyepatch is the primary indicator of which personality is currently in control, switching between his right and left eyes.

The original personality of the body is Akito, a sweet, cheerful, and innocent boy. He is non-violent and gentle in nature, in stark contrast to his other selves. Akito was the original Fang King who enjoyed riding Air Treks (ATs) for the sheer joy of it. However, he was exploited as a tool for violence by his older brother, Kaito Wanijima, who led the Wind SWAT team. The trauma and self-disgust from being forced to hurt others led Akito to mentally create a second personality, Agito, to take his place and bear the burden of fighting. After Agito's emergence, Akito lost his ability to use ATs effectively. He is often found in daily life scenarios, showing a childlike affection and a strong attachment to Itsuki "Ikki" Minami, whom he sees as a liberator. Akito is prone to expressing his affection physically, such as trying to kiss Ikki or join him in the bath, much to Ikki's chagrin. It is also noted that despite his gentle demeanor, an angry Akito can be terrifying, even more so than his violent counterpart.

When the eyepatch covers his left eye, the personality known as Agito takes control. Agito is Akito's dark and brutal half, created to protect the original personality. He is foul-mouthed, bloodthirsty, and arrogant, often characterized as a shark for his ferocity. As the current acting Fang King, Agito handles all of the body's battles and is an incredibly skilled A-class AT rider and a genius fighter, capable of replicating techniques after seeing them only once. His fighting style on the Bloody Road focuses on inflicting direct damage, using four sharp hooks dangling from straps on his legs to tear at opponents. Agito is abrasive and rude to his teammates, often claiming to hate group actions, but he is a tsundere who respects them as comrades and will help when truly needed. His primary motivation is the protection of Akito, and he shows a begrudging respect for Ikki's strength and way of doing things.

The third and most mysterious personality is Lind, who first emerges when Agito and Akito are in mortal danger. Lind claims to be the original and true personality of the body, viewing Akito and Agito as merely "babies" or incidental selves. Lind is more mature, level-headed, and even more powerful than the other two. This personality is a copy of a "Brain Charger" named Gazelle, who was the first Thorn Queen. Lind possesses an Over-Cross Twinkle pattern in their eyes, similar to the Gravity Children. When in control, Lind can merge the offensive power of the Bloody Road with the defensive flexibility of the Sonia Road, creating a hybrid fighting style of immense destructive power. The revelation of Lind's existence ties directly to the body's complicated origins and holds a key to the deeper lore of the series.

In the story of Air Gear, Akito and Agito are initially members of the Wind SWAT team, used as tools by their brother Kaito. They are rescued by Ikki, who shows them the meaning of freedom, leading them to defect and become founding members of the Kogarasumaru team. Within the group, Akito serves a crucial role as Agito's personal tuner. Because they share the same body, Akito can inherently sense Agito's bio-rhythm and maintain his ATs and Regalia. However, his skills as a tuner are not absolute, and he is unable to bring out the full potential of the Fang Regalia, leaving roughly three-quarters of its power inoperable until it is professionally tuned by another character. Akito's relationship with Ikki is a key driver, as Ikki provides the emotional liberation Akito never had. His relationship with his brother Kaito is one of abuse and manipulation, a past he has escaped but that continues to define the conflicts he faces. Over the course of the series, the three personalities develop a greater sense of cooperation, with Akito lending his strength to Agito when the eyepatch is removed, allowing for a temporary fusion of their abilities. The discovery of Lind as the third personality further complicates their identity, revealing that they were part of a larger, darker experiment, yet they ultimately remain a cohesive unit fighting as part of Kogarasumaru.
