Description
Hitoha Marui is the youngest of the three Marui triplets and a student in class 6-3 at Kamohashi Elementary School. As the third daughter, she is also referred to as Sanjo. She is consistently depicted as the most reserved and quiet of the sisters, often carrying an air of mystery that sets her apart from her more boisterous siblings.

In terms of personality, Hitoha is primarily introverted and socially withdrawn. Much of her character stems from a deep-seated shyness and an inability to easily connect with her peers. This social ineptness has led her to feel resigned to a solitary existence, believing that making friends is a futile effort. Her default expression is often blank, but when she is disturbed or provoked, she can give a truly terrifying and malicious glare that is known to frighten even adults. This frightening look is not always intentional; it often surfaces when she is nervous, embarrassed, or uncertain, such as when her teacher tries to encourage her to be more social. Despite this intimidating exterior, Hitoha has several hidden vulnerabilities, including a fear of heights and a fear of swimming.

A defining trait of Hitoha is her constant reading. She is almost always seen with a book in class, but the book itself is a cover used to hide the true nature of her reading material, which is consistently shown to be very erotic, including things like pornographic magazines. Her reasons for this interest are not presented as overtly sexual, making the habit a unique and unexplained quirk of her character. Despite the content of her books, Hitoha herself has a low tolerance for perverse behavior and can be easily embarrassed by such matters. Contrasting sharply with her morbid hobbies is her secret love for the Gachi Rangers, a children’s superhero television show parodying Super Sentai. She is a devoted fan but is deeply embarrassed by this interest, fearing it is too childish, and she will go to great lengths to keep it hidden.

Hitoha is arguably the most responsible and mature of the triplets. She is diligent, gets the best grades in class, and is a skilled cook who prepares most of the meals for her family. She also handles much of the cleaning and sewing around the house. Her responsible nature extends to being extremely frugal; she dislikes waste and is always looking for ways to save money on utilities, though she loses this willpower when it comes to buying Gachi Rangers merchandise.

Hitoha's relationships are complex and often strained by her poor communication skills. She is frequently annoyed by her sisters, Mitsuba and Futaba, often calling the eldest a whore and preferring to stay out of their schemes. Despite this, she holds a deep love for them and will go out of her way to help them when they are truly in need. Her most significant relationship is with the class pet, a hamster she names Chikubi. Hitoha is fiercely protective and possessive of Chikubi, showing her only consistently soft and affectionate side to the animal. She considers the hamster to be her only true friend.

She has a unique and difficult relationship with her homeroom teacher, Satoshi Yabe. While she is often crueler to him than anyone else and thinks he is pathetic and unreliable, she finds comfort in sitting under his desk and will occasionally show that she cares for him, such as when she apologized for insulting his love of Gachi Rangers. She is the only student who does not call him by the nickname Yabecchi. Her other notable relationship is with her classmate Sakiko Matsuoka, an occult enthusiast who mistakes Hitoha’s gloomy aura for spiritual power. Despite Hitoha’s annoyance with Matsuoka’s ghost hunting, the two form a reluctant friendship, though Hitoha is too shy to openly admit it.

Throughout the story, Hitoha shows subtle signs of development. She remains largely static in her core personality but has moments where she makes efforts to overcome her fears, such as attempting to learn how to swim and trying to be more outgoing at her teacher's urging. Her journey often involves her reluctantly forming bonds with others, like Yabe and Matsuoka, despite her insistence that she prefers to be alone. Her notable abilities include her academic intelligence, proficiency in cooking and other domestic chores, and her terrifying ability to freeze others in their tracks with a single glare.
