Description
Kazutoshi Oki is a first-year student at Nishiura High School and a member of the baseball team. He is notable for being the only left-handed player on the roster, a trait that defines much of his role within the squad. Physically, he has short black hair and hazel eyes, standing 172 centimeters tall and weighing approximately 60 kilograms. His birthday is July 20th, and his blood type is A. Oki comes from a family that includes his grandparents, parents, and an older sister.

In terms of baseball, Oki primarily plays as a first baseman and wears jersey number 3. His left-handed throw makes him a valuable, yet reluctant, asset as one of the team’s reserve pitchers alongside Azusa Hanai. He has more prior pitching experience than Hanai, having pitched during his first and second years of junior high school. However, he stopped pitching in his third year to focus on first base, largely due to a deep lack of self-confidence and a strong desire to avoid pitching in official games. His batting skills are not particularly outstanding, and he is often placed in the lower part of the lineup, though he can contribute by drawing walks.

Personality-wise, Oki is characterized by his nervous and timid nature, drawing many parallels to the team’s main pitcher, Ren Mihashi. He shares a similar lack of confidence and is easily intimidated by loud voices. This is especially true regarding the team's catcher, Takaya Abe, whose intense shouting frequently causes Oki to flinch and become scared. Despite this fear, Oki serves as an important observer of team dynamics. He is the one who points out to Abe that his loud voice is the reason Mihashi becomes frightened and runs away, offering a rare moment of critical insight into the communication issues between the pitcher and catcher.

Oki’s motivation is closely tied to his sense of duty to the team. While he is reluctant to pitch, he accepts the role of reserve pitcher because he understands that the small team needs every possible player to fill its roster. He finds inspiration in Mihashi’s dedication and perseverance. Watching Mihashi, who shares his anxious disposition, refuse to back down from the mound despite overwhelming pressure pushes Oki to confront his own fears and commit to trying his best for the team's sake.

His role in the story is primarily that of a supporting player and a backup option. He serves as a situational pitcher, given the strategic advantage of his left-handed throw, and is often seen practicing his pitching fundamentals under the guidance of Coach Maria Momoe. One of his most significant moments in the narrative occurs during a game against Bijou High School, where he makes a throwing error. In an attempt to make a play, his throw home leads to a collision that injures Abe. Oki carries the guilt for this incident, blaming himself and resolving to improve his hitting to make up for the mistake.

Oki’s key relationships are defined by his shared traits with his teammates. He has a strong rapport with Mihashi, sympathizing with his anxiety while also respecting his resilience. He is also notably close with his classmate, Nishihiro, and is often seen interacting amicably with the rest of the first-year players.

In terms of development, Oki experiences a gradual increase in confidence. Although initially terrified of being thrust into a high-pressure pitching situation, he is inspired to work harder by Mihashi’s example. He moves from hiding his pitching experience to actively preparing himself for the possibility of being called upon to help his team. Beyond baseball, Oki has a few notable abilities. He is skilled at calligraphy, having won an award for it at the school festival, and he attended swimming school until the sixth grade, where he was a two-time representative in the breaststroke.
