Description
Tetsuji Arafune captains Border's B-rank Arafune Squad. He joined Border as an Attacker roughly two years before certain newer agents, forming his squad shortly after with two Snipers mirroring Miwa Squad's structure. After achieving Master Class Attacker status using Kogetsu with 8,266 points, he transitioned to Sniper. This shift stemmed from a strategic plan to become a Perfect All-Rounder like Reiji Kizaki and develop mass-producible methodologies, not rumors of being surpassed by protégé Kō Murakami. He mentored Murakami using self-developed swordsmanship theories, leading to Murakami exceeding his points within eight months. Arafune initially concealed his true motivation, fearing it might appear as an excuse.

Standing 176 cm tall, he has light skin, brown hair, and purple eyes. He consistently wears a black cap in both physical and trion forms, with his trion body featuring a turquoise-and-black design. His trion uniform is typically fully zipped; at Border HQ, he occasionally dons casual attire like a tight black shirt with a sweater tied around his waist. Blunt-spoken and occasionally coarse with friends, he remains sociable and well-intentioned. He readily offers advice, enjoys competition, and maintains intense focus during critical missions. He dislikes dogs due to a childhood bite on his right buttock that left a permanent scar. He cannot swim and resists submerging his face. His interests include okonomiyaki, chilled tofu salad, action movies, and tea.

In combat, Arafune employs analytical strategies derived from studying battle logs, formulating theories, and rigorous Rank Wars testing. He seeks guidance only after exhaustive independent efforts. As a Sniper, he achieved Master Class with Egret (8,349 points) within eight months of switching roles. He tactically integrates his Attacker background, wielding Kogetsu left-handed—often in a reverse grip—while using Bagworm to mask injuries or reposition and Shield for defense. His reflexes allowed him to evade Lamvanein's initial strike during the Large-Scale Invasion, though he later lost an arm and teammates. He ranked 7th in sniper stealth training, expressing dissatisfaction.

Key developments include his squad receiving an Excellent Distinguished Service award after repelling Aftokrator. During B-Rank Wars, he analyzed Tamakoma Second's combat logs to strategize around Chika Amatori's Ibis usage. Against Tamakoma Second and Suwa Squad, he engaged Yūma Kuga in close combat despite a leg injury and later sniped Chika after losing both legs. He participated in repelling Galopoula, fighting alongside Reiji Kizaki against Trion Soldiers—noting aversion to dog-like models—and assisting ground forces. He advised Yuzuru Ema that protecting Chika required away-mission selection and discussed her reluctance to shoot people. His leadership emphasizes responsibility, evident when he apologized for his squad's performance despite scoring their sole point.
