Description
Kotarō Tomoe serves as a B-rank Gunner in Border's Kakizaki Squad. He possesses light skin, an average build, and neck-length ash blond hair featuring two face-framing bangs. His almond-shaped eyes contain narrow black irises. His distinctive attire includes a bright persimmon high-collared zipped jacket with matching headphones, layered over a black undershirt, dark brown pants, and boots.
Tomoe joined Border approximately two years after witnessing his future captain, Kuniharu Kakizaki, on television. Impressed by Kakizaki, he enlisted while still an elementary school student, becoming both Border's youngest agent and first elementary school recruit. His disciplined and respectful nature extends into combat, where he maintains focus and follows orders diligently. He openly admires ambitious objectives, like Tamakoma Second's goal to join the away mission, and acknowledges skilled fighters such as Hyuse after losing multiple training duels to him.
In combat, Tomoe primarily functions as a Gunner wielding Hound via handgun. His fighting style frequently resembles close-ranged All-Rounders, however, as he pairs his handgun with a single-handed Kogetsu. His standard Trigger loadout consists of Hound, Kogetsu, Bagworm, and Shield. His combat parameters are Trion (5), Attack (7), Defense/Support (5), Mobility (8), Skill (6), Range (2), Command (3), and Special Tactics (2), totaling 38 points. Kakizaki believes Tomoe's skills surpass Border's official evaluations.
Tomoe participates in major engagements. During Aftokrator's Large-Scale Invasion, he battles the Neighbor Lamvanein alongside Kakizaki Squad and allies. He contributes to Lamvanein's defeat by casting Shields to protect comrades, enabling a successful counterattack. Kakizaki Squad survives the invasion without bailouts and receives an Excellent Distinguished Service award.
In B-Rank Wars, Tomoe engages in multiple matches. Against Tamakoma Second and Katori Squad, Kakizaki Squad employs coordinated tactics; Tomoe disrupts enemy formations using Hound. He is immobilized by Chika Amatori's Lead Bullet and eliminated by Yūma Kuga. Following this loss, Kakizaki Squad refines their tactics. Tomoe later observes Tamakoma Second's match against Ninomiya Squad, noting Chika's defensive use of Fixed Shield.
Tomoe trains against Hyuse in Kogetsu sparring matches, losing all five rounds yet expressing admiration for Hyuse's skill. He witnesses Hyuse's duel against Tatsuhito Ikoma and joins others in congratulating Hyuse afterward.
Outside combat, Tomoe enjoys hashed meat and rice, watermelons, and manga. He lives a fulfilling life, partly due to being doted on by his squad's Operator, Madoka Ui, and senior members.
