Description
Ila is a magician and a member of the Magician's Guild in the city of Ohfun. She is a friend and fellow student of the guild's headmaster's adopted son, Louie, with whom she shares a close and long-standing relationship. While she is a capable and knowledgeable magic-user, she is more of an academic who is easily frightened by the dangers of real combat. This aversion to physical danger is a key characteristic; she is known to faint at the sight of a dangerous situation, which prevents her from participating in the kind of frontline adventuring that Louie and his party undertake.

Her primary role within the story is that of a supportive confidante and source of information for Louie, whom she genuinely cares for. She often acts as a bridge between Louie's world and the more traditional magical establishment of the guild. Her extensive theoretical knowledge of magic and, more notably, of magical items and artifacts is a significant asset. On several occasions, she uses this expertise to assist Louie and his companions, whether by identifying a dangerous magical phenomenon or by providing them with items from her personal collection, even if those items are not always conventionally useful. For example, her personal possessions include a pair of glasses that are a powerful magical treasure.

In her interactions with Louie, Ila demonstrates a quiet and patient affection. She is interested in him romantically and will attempt to drop hints about her feelings, though Louie generally remains oblivious to these advances, and their relationship stays platonic. Despite her scholarly demeanor, she is not above getting involved in their escapades, at times joining the group on their journeys, such as when she traveled to the Tower of the Four Great Magics to investigate a colleague's experiment. She is also present at guild meetings and social gatherings, often acting as a moderating influence on the boisterous Louie and providing a calm counterpoint to the more aggressive personalities of his adventuring party. Her development is subtle, as she moves from being primarily a guild contact into a more active participant in the group's adventures, using her magical knowledge to help them solve problems rather than fighting directly.
