Description
Radock Lanzard is a supporting character in the anime The Slayers Evolution-R, where he appears as a merchant living in Vezin City. On the surface, he is a respectable businessman who inherited his trade from a gifted predecessor, but his own abilities have not matched that legacy and his business is in decline. Despite this, he is well liked in the city, and his reputation as a decent person is generally good. This ordinary public face, however, hides his true identity as the feared assassin known as Zuuma, a killer so accomplished that he is called the assassin of assassins and is recognized by name even among seasoned adventurers.

Radock's involvement with the main characters begins before the events of Evolution-R. He was once hired to assassinate Lina Inverse, but his attempt failed and he lost both arms in the confrontation. To recover, he merged with a demon, or mazoku, which restored his arms and allowed him to continue. In the anime, this setback transforms him from a professional assassin into an attacker driven by personal grievance. He develops a deep grudge against Lina and seems to take pleasure in cruel and taunting behavior toward her.

His role in the story is built on deception. Presenting himself as a threatened merchant, he hires Lina and her companions as bodyguards, claiming his life is in danger. In truth, the arrangement is a carefully staged trap meant to bring Lina close so he can settle the score with her. His plan culminates in a final confrontation, and this scheme to lure his target into a decisive battle under the cover of his merchant identity is the central thread of his part in the plot.

Radock's personality is defined by the contrast between his two identities. As Radock, he is courteous and respected enough that the people of Vezin City think well of him; as Zuuma, he is ruthless, prideful, and fixated on finishing what he started. He insists on killing with his own hands rather than relying on magic, which he uses only as a supplement to his direct physical combat. This preference reflects a stern professional code, though in the anime his fixation on revenge erodes his professionalism and leaves his actions driven mainly by hatred.

In terms of relationships, his primary connection is with Lina Inverse, both as her would-be assassin and as her employer under false pretenses. Lina and her party act as his hired guards for much of the story, unaware of his real intentions. He also has a son, Abel Lanzard, who is suspicious of the newly hired guards and tries to find fault with them in hopes of sending them away. Abel does not share his father's hidden agenda and serves as an obstacle to the group during their stay.

Radock's development follows his descent from a detached professional into a bitter avenger. Losing his arms to Lina and regaining them through union with a demon leaves him physically restored but emotionally consumed by his vendetta. His story in Evolution-R reaches its end when his deception is exposed and the confrontation he engineered takes place. Throughout it all, his defining traits remain his formidable skill, his insistence on personal combat, and the grudge that reshapes his life.
