TV-Series
Description
Kluke is a main character from the village of Talta. At the start of the story, she is ten years old and lives as an orphan, having lost her parents prior to the events of the series. Despite this loss, she grew up alongside her close friend Shu and shares a strong bond with the other children of the village. When Shu decides to leave Talta to confront the forces of Nene, Kluke chooses to join his journey, determined not to be left behind.
Kluke possesses a spirited and sometimes fiery personality. She is known for her short temper and is not afraid to voice her opinions, often playfully scolding or even physically lashing out at Shu and her other friend Marumaro when they act carelessly. This feisty exterior, however, hides a deeply caring and sensitive nature. She genuinely worries about the safety of her friends and hates feeling helpless or like a burden to the group. Her initial frustration stems from a lack of combat ability, which drives her desire to become stronger. While she often hides her true feelings behind a mask of teasing or irritation, she is a loyal and protective companion.
Kluke’s primary motivation throughout the first part of her journey is to protect those she cares about. She joins the fight not out of a thirst for adventure, but to stand by Shu and ensure she can contribute to their shared struggles. This desire to be useful and to safeguard her friends is so powerful that it awakens her unique ability. Unlike others who gain their powers early, Kluke obtains her Shadow later, doing so because her wish for the strength to protect everyone was pure and absolute.
In the story, Kluke serves as a key support member of the group. While not the primary combatant in the early stages, her intelligence and unique skills are invaluable. She is a gifted mechanic with a natural affinity for machines, able to operate, repair, and understand complex technology that baffles others. This technical expertise often provides the team with solutions to obstacles they cannot fight their way through. Later, her role evolves into a more direct form of support using her Shadow powers.
Kluke’s key relationships are central to her character. Her bond with Shu is the most significant; they are childhood friends who share an unspoken understanding and care for each other. Kluke harbors a crush on Shu, though she rarely admits it and becomes easily jealous, particularly of Bouquet who shows a more open interest in him. Her relationship with Jiro is that of a reliable friend and ally, though the two are not as close in the anime as they are in other versions of the story. She also shares a comedic and often exasperated relationship with Marumaro, whose perverted tendencies frequently earn him a scolding or a hit from her. In the second season, her dynamic shifts significantly as she becomes the caretaker for the injured Andropov, showing a more mature and patient side of her personality.
Kluke undergoes notable development over the course of the series. Initially presented as a somewhat ordinary girl who feels useless in a fight, her acquisition of the Phoenix Shadow marks a major turning point, giving her the power she craved but also putting her in great danger. After the first major conflict concludes, two years pass, and a twelve-year-old Kluke has matured considerably. Having lost her Shadow powers, she has settled into a peaceful life as a village teacher and caretaker, living with the wounded Andropov. She has become much calmer, wiser, and more maternal, having grown to dislike fighting after witnessing so much loss. However, when a new threat emerges, she does not hesitate to reclaim her power and rejoin her old friends, showing that her core desire to protect others has not faded, only deepened.
Kluke’s notable abilities are defined by her legendary Shadow, the Phoenix. Unlike the aggressive combat Shadows of her allies, Phoenix is a purely supportive entity. It possesses the power to create powerful protective barriers that can shield the entire party from harm. Its most unique and crucial ability is teleportation, allowing Kluke to instantly transport herself and her companions across vast distances. This power proves to be a decisive strategic asset in the final battles of the series. Outside of her Shadow, Kluke is also a highly proficient mechanic, capable of building, fixing, and piloting various machines and vehicles, a skill that aids the group on numerous occasions.
