Description
Ludwin Arcs is a nobleman from the Arcs fiefdom, situated between Parnam and Venetinova. His house acts as patron to the Maxwell House. With both parents deceased, he is the last of the Arcs line. Raised alongside Genia Maxwell due to their houses' close ties, they regard one another as the only family they have left.
He is a tall, handsome man of about thirty, possessing long, straight blonde hair, blue eyes, and a sturdy build. He is commonly seen in the fluted armor of his station within the Royal Guard.
Ludwin is defined by his intelligence, charisma, and strong sense of duty. He maintains a simple lifestyle, partly by choice and partly to provide financial support for Genia and her research, which he deems highly valuable to the kingdom.
He initially serves as leader of the Royal Guard and acting commander of the Forbidden Army during crises. He quickly pledges his support to Kazuya Souma after the latter takes the throne and initiates reforms. Ludwin administers a final test to officially confirm Aisha Udgard’s role as a bodyguard.
His military leadership comes to the fore in the One Week War, where he acts as commanding officer against Georg Carmine’s rebellion and the subsequent Amidonian invasion. His performance results in his appointment as second-in-command of the reorganized National Defense Force under Excel Walter. Though Excel initially opposes her own appointment, it is expected Ludwin will eventually assume full command after gaining further experience. He later serves as acting commanding officer during a Friedonian expedition to aid the Union of Eastern Nations, cooperating with a former opponent, Julius Amidonia.
Ludwin arranges a meeting between Kazuya Souma, Liscia Elfrieden, and Genia Maxwell, apologizing in advance for Genia having taken a dragon skeleton uncovered by a civil engineering project. This leads to Genia’s recognition for her value to the kingdom. Subsequently, encouraged by their mutual feelings and Genia’s importance, the two marry on the same day as Kazuya’s coronation and wedding. Their relationship is occasionally interrupted by Trill Euphoria’s obsession with Genia.
When off duty, Ludwin often observes Genia and her research team’s development work alongside Souji Lester. Both men sometimes serve as test subjects in various experiments.
A skilled military leader and strategist, Ludwin achieves victories against figures such as Georg Carmine, Gaius Amidonia, and demon forces. He relies on capable subordinates like Kaede Foxia and Halbert Magna to execute operations. He is also a capable engineer. In martial combat, he is a trained military knight skilled enough to compete with Aisha Udgard, at least in their initial encounters.
