Movie
Description
A fairly young but precocious man endowed with great intelligence and even greater arrogance, Huskisson is a character exclusive to the flashback that opens the film Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa. His role is to serve as a cautionary antagonist from the Elric brothers' past, demonstrating the dangers of scientific ambition without ethical restraint.
Huskisson works as a nuclear physicist living in a large, castle-like facility built upon a uranium mine, located somewhere south-west of Amestris. The inherent danger of his work has left him with extensive facial scars around his eyes, which he hides behind a metal mask. The mining operations under his control have claimed the lives of many workers, a fact that reveals his willingness to sacrifice human lives for the sake of progress.
His primary motivation is the desire for recognition and power. Sometime in 1914, he perfected a powerful new type of bomb fueled by uranium and very vocally publicized his findings, hoping to secure the backing of the Amestrian State Military. He presents himself as spearheading a surge of technological development that has swept Amestris and wishes for a direct introduction to Central Command. When his vision is challenged, his arrogance quickly turns to violent hostility. He is prone to fits of rage, believing that his scientific innovations render the craft of State Alchemists useless, and he is willing to kill to prove his superiority.
In the story, Huskisson serves as the primary antagonist of the prologue. Edward Elric relates the encounter with him to Alfons Heiderich at the beginning of the film. The Elric brothers investigate his facility based on shady rumors that had begun to circulate. Mistaking Alphonse for the Fullmetal Alchemist, Huskisson regales him with his plans before Alphonse refuses his offer, denouncing the bomb as a destructive weapon. This rejection enrages the physicist, leading to a physical confrontation where he uses hidden mechanical drills and traps against the armored boy.
When Edward arrives, a battle ensues that ends with the Elric brothers using alchemy to neutralize Huskisson's massive mining-drill apparatus. Beaten but unrepentant, Huskisson threatens to set off the uranium bomb and reveals a backup plan to create an army of half-man, half-machine soldiers to conquer Amestris. In a desperate final move, he attempts to use alchemy to transmute a heap of deceased uranium miners. Despite Edward's warnings, he activates a transmutation circle and is immediately brought before the Gate for attempting human transmutation. A bewildered Huskisson is then dragged into the waiting arms of the Gate Children, losing his entire body to the void.
Huskisson demonstrates several notable abilities. He possesses extensive knowledge of nuclear physics and uranium refinement, having successfully created a functional uranium bomb. He is also mechanically adept, constructing hidden drills and a massive mining apparatus that he operates personally to battle his enemies. Perhaps most surprisingly, despite his apparent disdain for alchemy, he was able to perform a transmutation that opened the Gate, suggesting his alchemical abilities were quite extensive, as even attempting human transmutation is considered an extremely difficult task.
Though he is not mentioned by name for the rest of the film, his actions have lasting consequences. His uranium bomb makes its way into the parallel world, where it is acquired by the Thule Society, and the prospect of obtaining more advanced weapons from Shamballa is what initially drives the society to invade the other world. At the conclusion of the film, Edward and Alphonse set off together to find and destroy the bomb and any remaining research, hoping to prevent further damage from Huskisson's dangerous legacy.
