Description
Gohin is a giant panda psychiatrist and back-alley doctor who rehabilitates carnivores overtaken by their predatory instincts, operating primarily within the Black Market.
He stands 205 centimeters tall in the manga and 194 centimeters in the anime, with a large, muscular build and a prominent scar across his left cheek and right eye—a injury sustained while capturing savage carnivores that also cost him the eye. He prefers casual clothing over traditional doctor attire.
Strict and straightforward, he does not hesitate to reprimand recklessness or ignorance, though he remains reasonable and possesses a sense of humor. A medical school graduate, he left his unnamed wife and child about five years before the main story due to the dangers of his work, which also caused significant hair loss on his back.
He first encounters the gray wolf Legoshi after finding him unconscious in the Black Market. Assuming Legoshi had succumbed to instinct, Gohin captures and begins treating him. When Legoshi confesses his feelings for the dwarf rabbit Haru, Gohin provides a rabbit porn magazine to test whether his attraction is genuine or predatory.
They meet again when Gohin saves Legoshi from two carnivores attempting to skin him. Later, Gohin assists in Haru’s rescue from the Shishigumi lion gang by holding off the lions during the operation, marking the shift in their relationship from doctor-patient to mentorship and friendship.
Legoshi later seeks Gohin’s help to train against Riz, the bear who murdered his friend Tem. Gohin agrees and initiates a rigorous regimen involving meditation, exposure therapy, and capturing meat-addicted carnivores. To help Legoshi move through the Black Market undetected, Gohin cuts his fur short and, when that fails, lends him his wife’s old clothes for disguise as a female wolf. Though Gohin acknowledges that eating meat may be necessary for strength, he respects Legoshi’s choice to reject it.
After Legoshi pulls out his own fangs, Gohin treats his mouth injuries over several days and provides dentures modeled after his original teeth.
Gohin’s other patients include Ai, whom he successfully treated for murderous impulses, restoring her emotional expression, and his student Kyuu. He is implied to observe turf wars and provide medical aid, such as treating Dolph after his throat was slashed by Melon, an intervention that likely saved the lion’s life.
For his dangerous work, Gohin employs a bamboo crossbow, a net for capturing savage carnivores, and a bamboo machine gun. He is a skilled hunter, capable of subduing wild carnivores using both strength and his equipment.
He currently works at the psychiatry department of a university hospital, having previously operated from the Big Bear Cat Psychiatric Hospital.
