Description
Charlotte Elwyn Yeager, nicknamed Shirley, hailed from a Myra, West Virginia farming family as the eldest of five siblings. Her pre-military fame emerged as a record-breaking motorcycle racer on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats, where her magic-enhanced Indian motorcycle—inspired by Burt Munro's designs—earned her the press monikers "Glamorous Shirley" and "Queen of Speed." This obsession with velocity replaced childhood singing ambitions after witnessing witches in flight, specifically aiming to shatter the sound barrier.

Enlisting in the Liberion Army Air Corps in 1943 leveraged her mechanical expertise and military connections. Assigned to the 363rd Fighter Squadron, she faced near-dismissal for unauthorized Striker Unit modifications until senior officers transferred her to the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, recognizing her talents. As a Flying Officer, she restored discarded equipment like a damaged Swordfish Mk.I bomber and retrofitted transport trucks with reinforced frames and upgraded engines, while devising tactical innovations such as radio wave detectors.

Her "Speed Boost" magic (超加速, Chō-kasoku) enabled exponential velocity surges. During coastal training after Yoshika Miyafuji's assignment, she intercepted a high-speed Neuroi using Francesca Lucchini's accidentally modified Striker Unit, breaking the sound barrier unrecorded due to absent witnesses. Rescued unconscious by Miyafuji and Lynette Bishop, her subsequent promotion to Flight Lieutenant faced bureaucratic delays before approval by Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke.

Deploying to North Africa with the 31st Joint Fighter Squadron post-Gallia's liberation, she and Lucchini operated from a Mediterranean base alongside African units including Hanna-Justina Marseille. Isolated from Liberion supply chains, she sourced local materials, acquiring her signature red outfit during a Britannia motorcycle repair run. In Operation Victory Arrow at Delos Island, she overrode bombardment orders to honor Lucchini's emotional ties, using a sunken freighter's winch to physically extract an underground Neuroi for safe elimination.

Returning to the reformed 501st after Venice's fall, she tested Ursula Hartmann's experimental Me 262 Swallow jet Striker. After Lucchini rejected it, Shirley's race against Gertrud Barkhorn caused Barkhorn's mid-air collapse. When Barkhorn later piloted the prototype to save Shirley from a Neuroi ambush, its malfunction triggered uncontrollable acceleration. Shirley executed her second confirmed supersonic flight to rescue Barkhorn via emergency cable release.

Personality fused thrill-seeking individualism with unwavering loyalty. Her speed obsession contrasted with fastidious cleanliness—evidenced by transporting a personal bathtub between bases. Though carefree and frequently disciplined for rule-breaking, she maintained objective battlefield assessments and critical responsibilities. As the 501st's mood-maker, she mentored Lucchini like a younger sister, easing her integration. Her rivalry with Barkhorn blended clashes with professional respect. Socially outgoing, she befriended admirers like Gerard and Carl despite tactics like unarmed Neuroi charges.

Physically tall and buxom, she had curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Her rabbit familiar—a nod to photographer Bunny Yeager—manifested as hare-like ears and tail during magic use. Standard armaments included a M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, Thompson M1A1 submachine gun, Colt M1911A1 pistol, and Bowie knife. Her P-51D Mustang-modeled Striker Unit bore names "Glamorous Shirley" and later "Merlin."
