Description
Chie Hallard is a secondary character in the anime My-Otome, where she has a significantly more serious and dramatic role compared to her comedic counterpart in the related series My-HiME. Within the hierarchy of Garderobe Academy, the prestigious school for Otome warriors, Chie holds the rank of a Pearl and serves as a prominent member of the Trias. The Trias is a group of three senior students responsible for maintaining student discipline, and Chie eventually becomes its leading member.

Hailing from the Aries Republic, Chie possesses a calm, collected, and remarkably balanced personality. Her demeanor is often described as boyish, a trait complemented by her habit of frequently carrying a blue rose. This composure allows her to be an effective mediator, especially when tempering the more aggressive and impulsive disciplinary methods of her fellow Trias member, Shiho Huit. She is level-headed and consistently willing to offer help, striving to resolve conflicts with a steady hand rather than through brute force or rash actions. Chie maintains a quiet confidence in her abilities and often appears to be several steps ahead of unfolding events.

One of Chie's most defining characteristics is her deep, meaningful relationship with Aoi Senou. The two share a close bond that began when they first met at Garderobe, and they are frequently seen working together. They collaborate to support those in distress, such as when they helped lift Princess Mashiro out of a deep depression. Chie's motivations are heavily tied to her loyalty to her homeland, the Aries Republic, and her protective instincts toward those she cares for. She is not a naive student; she demonstrates a pragmatic and secretive side by choosing not to officially report the malicious plots of a fellow student, Tomoe Marguerite, against the protagonist Arika Yumemiya. Chie is fully aware of Tomoe's dangerous schemes, which result in injuries to another student, Erstin Ho. Instead of involving the authorities, Chie confronts Tomoe privately and orders her to stop, a decision she keeps silent about for reasons that remain her own.

As the series progresses, it is revealed that Chie is not merely a student but also a Major in the military forces of the Aries Republic. Her core motivation is to serve her country and uncover the truth behind Nagi’s nefarious plans. To achieve this, she undertakes a dangerous undercover mission, infiltrating the ranks of the Valkyries, an Otome squadron controlled by the Schwarz organization and led by Sergay Wang. She willingly answers his call to become an Artai Otome, using the Cursed Obsidian GEM. Her primary goal is to expose Nagi's conspiracy from the inside. Chie serves as Sergay’s competent and trusted second-in-command during key operations, including the capture of Mashiro. The restrictive power of her GEM is designed to administer a shock if its user disobeys orders, yet her dedication to her true purpose allows her to momentarily resist this control.

In the final battle, Chie proves her heroism by intercepting a devastating attack from Tomoe that was meant for Arika. Although the blow destroys her Otome robe, she survives, thanks in part to the Spiraling technique performed by Shiho Huit and two other students, which removed the GEM's built-in restriction. Following the conflict, Chie is reunited with Aoi and is instrumental in the arrest of the primary antagonist, Nagi, bringing her undercover mission to a successful close.

In the subsequent OVA series, My-Otome Zwei, Chie has advanced in her military career. She commands the Delta Strike Force for the Aries Republic. Her combat abilities have also evolved significantly, as she now wields a Meister-level Robe with a magician theme. Her arsenal includes a top hat capable of creating spatial portals to launch indirect attacks, an ornate cane that can generate powerful energy blasts and protective forcefields, and squad-based tactics that involve trapping and shrinking enemies for capture. It is worth noting that in the manga adaptation of My-Otome, Chie’s role is considerably reduced. Lacking the major subplots involving Tomoe and the Valkyries, she becomes a background character who still uses a standard Pearl Robe and appears primarily in group battle scenes.
