Description
Midori is a character in the My-Otome anime series. In this setting, she serves as the leader of the Aswad, a fighting group composed of the last survivors of the region known as the Black Valley. Her primary motivation is the recovery of ancient technology that can cure a disease afflicting the people of the Black Valley. She is childhood friends with Yohko Helene, a scientist who works with her in the Aswad. Midori insists that she is seventeen years old, but this claim is not taken literally; her youthful appearance is maintained by a device she uses, which also preserves her vitality.
Midori’s personality in My-Otome is notably cold-hearted and serious, a sharp contrast to her more cheerful and mischievous portrayal in the preceding series My-HiME. She is driven by a pragmatic and determined resolve to save her people, and she does not hesitate to take harsh measures if necessary. Her role in the story is that of a supporting character who often acts as an antagonist or obstacle to the main protagonist Arika Yumemiya, particularly because her goals sometimes conflict with those of the Garderobe Academy and its Otome. She is also connected to the wider political conflicts within the series, as the Aswad operate outside the main governing structures.
In terms of abilities, Midori is a fully trained Otome, which grants her enhanced strength, speed, and agility. She is highly skilled in combat, favoring a pair of long daggers that she wields with precision. Her experience and leadership make her a formidable opponent in battle. She also demonstrates strategic intelligence and a deep knowledge of ancient technology, which she uses to pursue her mission. Throughout the series, Midori shows little personal growth or change in her outlook, remaining focused on her objective even as events unfold around her. Her relationship with Yohko Helene is a key element of her backstory, as the two share a history of friendship and collaboration.
