Description
Maximillion Pégasus is the president of Industrial Illusions and the creator of the Duel Monsters card game. In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light, he resides on his private island, living in relative seclusion after the events of the Duelist Kingdom arc. He retains his flamboyant and theatrical demeanor, often speaking with an affected elegance and addressing others by nicknames such as "Kaiba-boy" or "Yugi-boy." At the same time, he is a shrewd businessman and a man of his word, honoring deals he makes even when they work against his own interests.

Pégasus originally pursued a career as an artist, but the death of his beloved Cyndia drove him to travel to Egypt. There, Shadi forced the Millennium Eye into his left eye, granting him the ability to read minds and see the spirits of the dead. The vision he saw of Cyndia after receiving the Eye reinforced his obsession with reviving her, a goal that led him to create Duel Monsters based on ancient Egyptian rituals and to develop the Toon monster archetype, inspired by the cartoons he loved as a child growing up in America.

In the movie, Pégasus plays a pivotal but indirect role in the conflict. Seto Kaiba visits his island and challenges him to a duel, seeking a card strong enough to defeat Yugi's Egyptian God Cards. Pégasus accepts the wager and, despite having his deck manipulated by the spirit of Anubis, loses to Kaiba. Kaiba takes a card that later proves to be the Pyramid of Light, which Anubis uses to trap Yugi and his friends. When Pégasus realizes the supernatural danger threatening the duelists, he travels by helicopter to the Kaiba Dome and secures the safety of Téa Gardner, Solomon Muto, and Mokuba Kaiba, ensuring they are not harmed as the duel spirals into a shadow game.

His key relationships in the movie are with Seto Kaiba, whom he treats as a worthy rival and business counterpart, and with Yugi Muto, whom he continues to regard with a mix of fascination and respect. Although he once served as a main antagonist, in the film he acts as a reluctant source of the danger and then as an outside helper, demonstrating a degree of humility and concern for others that was less visible during his earlier schemes. His Millennium Eye grants him the ability to perceive the supernatural elements of the duel, allowing him to understand the threat posed by Anubis even before the heroes fully grasp it.

Notable abilities include his mastery of Toon monsters, which he fields as his primary deck strategy, and the psychic powers of his Millennium Eye, which allow him to read opponents' thoughts and anticipate their moves. He is also a skilled shadow game practitioner, though in the movie he does not directly engage in one. Despite his arrogance and dramatic flair, Pégasus shows that he can set aside his own ambitions when a greater evil emerges, making him a complex figure who straddles the line between antagonist and ally.
