Description
Mina Tepeş, whose full name is Wilhelmina Vlad Țepeș, is the female protagonist of Dance in the Vampire Bund and the current ruler of all vampires on Earth. She is a direct descendant of Vlad Țepeș, commonly known as Dracula, and belongs to the pure-blooded vampire royal family. Despite being centuries old, she appears as a prepubescent girl around ten years of age due to having awakened her vampire powers prematurely, which drastically slowed her physical growth. Her default childlike form is also a deliberate disguise, as she possesses the ability to transform into her true adult form, which is tall and striking, resembling a succubus-like figure. She typically keeps this form hidden, revealing it only in battle or to those she trusts implicitly.

Mina’s personality is multifaceted and often contradictory. On the surface, she can be haughty, imperious, and manipulative, using her wit and royal authority to control situations and people around her. She is not shy about her nudity or her status, and she frequently displays a bossy temperament. However, beneath this exterior lies a deeply protective and compassionate ruler. She genuinely cares for the welfare of her vampire subjects and shows particular sympathy for the Fangless, vampires who have removed their own fangs to resist their predatory instincts. Her ultimate motivation is to create a peaceful coexistence between vampires and humans, which she pursues through bold and often risky political maneuvers. She is willing to sacrifice her own safety and happiness for the future of her people.

Mina’s central role in the story involves the establishment of the Vampire Bund, a sovereign artificial island in Tokyo Bay. She gains permission from the Japanese government by paying off the entire national debt of Japan using her family’s vast wealth, then publicly reveals the existence of vampires to the world. The Bund is intended to be a sanctuary for all vampires, especially the Fangless, but its creation triggers intense conflict with human extremists and the vampire nobility known as the Three Clans. Mina’s every decision is shaped by her need to navigate these political and military threats while maintaining her vision of a sustainable vampire society.

Her most significant relationship is with Akira Kaburagi Regendorf, a werewolf of the Earth Clan bound by blood oath to serve as her protector. Mina met Akira when he was a child, and their bond deepens throughout the series into one of mutual love and fierce loyalty. She often treats him harshly or teases him, but her affection is genuine, and she struggles to balance her personal feelings with her responsibilities as a monarch. She also has complex ties with the Three Clans, the most powerful pure-blood vampire nobles, who killed her mother, Queen Lucretia, and now seek to control or marry Mina to preserve their lineage. Despite this antagonistic history, Mina must maneuver politically, sometimes forcing them to swear allegiance. Her maids and the werewolf Earth Clan serve her faithfully, and she maintains a respectful friendship with the human Yuki Saegusa, who becomes a bridge between species.

Throughout the narrative, Mina undergoes notable character development. She begins as a seemingly cold and calculating strategist, but as events challenge her authority and threaten those she loves, she becomes more open about her emotions and prioritizes her personal connections over pure political expediency. Her arc explores the heavy burdens of leadership, the sacrifices required to protect her people, and the gradual integration of her human-like vulnerability with her ancient, powerful nature.

As a vampire, Mina possesses a range of formidable abilities. She is immortal and does not age biologically, centuries having passed without physical change. She possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, and remarkable regenerative capacities, allowing her to heal from wounds that would be fatal to humans. Like all vampires in this world, she is vulnerable to direct sunlight, but she can counteract this with a substance called shade gel, which grants her brief periods of daylight exposure. Her most notable power is her ability to shift between her child form and her true adult form, the latter being a more powerful manifestation of her inner self, often described as a succubus. In this form, she gains enhanced combat capabilities and a wingspan. She also exhibits some degree of blood manipulation and the inherent authority of a pure-blood ruler, which gives her the loyalty of those bound to her bloodline. These abilities, combined with her centuries of experience and strategic cunning, make her a formidable leader in both political and physical confrontations.
