TV-Series
Description
Nanami Takahashi is the female protagonist of the series, introduced as a first-year high school student who hopes to make new friends quickly. She has a sweet and innocent appearance with short carrot orange hair often styled in various ways, large milk chocolate eyes, and a petite frame. At the start of her school life, she becomes aware of Motoharu Yano, the most popular boy in her class. Initially, she dislikes his seemingly superficial attitude and resolves not to fall for him like most other girls, but she soon finds herself drawn to him out of curiosity and eventually falls in love. Her personality is gentle, naive, sensitive, and prone to crying easily, which leads others to describe her as a crybaby. She is also quite clumsy and tends to confess her feelings too quickly, yet she struggles to sort out her emotions and often feels torn between what her heart wants and what she thinks is wise. Despite her softness, she has a strong-willed side and is not afraid to stand up for herself, even being the first person to curse at Yano when he is rude to her.

Her main motivation throughout the story is to build a genuine, trusting relationship with Yano while navigating the shadow of his deceased ex-girlfriend, Nana Yamamoto. She wants to understand Yano’s painful past and help him open up, but she also desires to feel secure in their love. When Yano’s secrets and his unresolved grief make her feel inadequate, she makes the painful decision to break up with him, believing she cannot make him happy. Later, she agrees to resume their relationship on the condition that she learns the truth about his past.

After Yano moves to Tokyo and eventually stops contacting her, Nanami is deeply hurt and confused. She begins a relationship with Yano’s best friend, Masafumi Takeuchi, who has fallen in love with her, but she remains emotionally attached to Yano. Through her friendship with a coworker named Akiko Sengenji, she learns more about Yano’s circumstances, including his mother’s suicide and his guilt-driven involvement with Yuri Yamamoto. These revelations push her to reject Takeuchi’s marriage proposal, as she realizes she cannot marry him while still loving Yano. Ultimately, she and Yano reunite after he finally admits his true feelings and resolves the misunderstandings of the past.

Nanami’s key relationships shape her growth. With Yano, she experiences both the intensity of first love and the pain of doubt and separation. With Takeuchi, she finds comfort and stability but recognizes that her heart belongs elsewhere. Her interactions with Yuri are tense, as Yuri’s complicated relationship with Yano creates obstacles. She also forms a supportive friendship with Akiko, who helps her understand Yano’s hidden struggles. Over the course of the story, Nanami matures from a naive, emotionally driven teenager into a more resilient young adult capable of making difficult decisions for her own happiness. Her notable abilities include emotional perseverance, a capacity for deep empathy, and an unwavering determination to understand and be with the person she loves, even when faced with prolonged uncertainty and heartache.
